What a silly conclusion. That's like saying 80% prefer PC computing. Really?

The only conclusion you can draw is that 80% use android.

How many users of cheap android phones would choose apple if money was no object?

How many chose based on brand?
so your conclusion is same as mine. Apple caters to the wealthy niche.

Or wanna be. Apple products are a status symbol. Their products are marketed and priced under stringent control. What's the biggest "sale" you've ever seen on a MacBook? That's the market they want.

I dont know if ignorant is necessarily appropriate. I've been computing since the days of the Timex Sinclair. We were rocking the IBM XT and Apple IIe. After 30 years of continuous PC use, I switched to iMacs and MacBook this year. I don't need or want endless customization. I want my shit to work when I need it to work. There is a premium, but it's not as big as it used to be.

The only thing that bothers me is the proprietary platform for iTunes.

depends on what line of work. I have both PC and Mac . I use Mac for iOS development and status symbol when I go meet clients. But 90% time I still need PC for other work. It is very hard to do any kind of hardware programming on Mac outside the Apple product sphere.

99% people sitting at Starbucks with computers are using Apple. at timmies, PC is still majority. There is clearly an income or at least spending gap between the two demographics. However Apple maybe losing its status symbol as almost anyone could afford one with a finance plan.

Next time you notice this take a video on your Smartphone of each and report back. I can't say I've seen anything like it and I spend a whole lot of time in coffee shops at all hours of the day, except Timmies, as i can't stand that shite.

All I need in my line of work is the office productivity suite. However, most document management and accounting software is still PC-based. The vast majority of my clients are PC-based. (90% of lawyers are still on PC) When I was shopping with the blackshirts at the apple store, they kept raving about the many different ways I could still access PC software (dual boot, virtualization, etc). Finally I got fed up and said, "shouldn't your answer be - if you need PC software, get a PC!" Why would I get a Mac that be made to work like a PC? That's f-ing stupid.

I'm happy to run both mac and PC at my firm. Is that a waste of money? Probably, but no more so that geeks who run 2 or 3 pcs?

That's pretty much a load of crap.

Your surveying skills are way off.
Granted a lot of PC-makers are copying the Macbook look.

Funny thing is that (at least until last year) a Macbook Pro was the most stable Windows platform!

Speaking of which, as soon as they release a new MBP with retina and the haswell chip, I'll get that too! I love the battery life on my MBA but I hate the screen.

My wife has a mac. It would be a lot nicer without the frustrating, obstructionist Apple software that is designed to prevent you from doing what you want.

I wouldn't call it the best, but you just support my point that they are wealthy niche.
Your continued point of Apple as a "wealthy niche" product is ri-DUCK-u-lous, I guess those 99% Mac users at Starbucks are just hob-nobbing with poorboys like yourself, eh George?

the hobby needs more capitalism
And sigh.. the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C was another flop... :(

http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/23/4761022/iphone-5s-5c-opening-weekend-sales-figures

It's almost inevitable: release a new iPhone, break a sales record. This year, Apple released a pair of iPhones, the 5S and 5C, and unsurprisingly sales have been strong. Apple sold a combined 9 million iPhone 5S and 5C smartphones over the handsets' first full weekend of sales — the most it's ever done. That's enough for Apple to have already sold out of its initial stock of the iPhone 5S, though the company does say that retail stores are regularly receiving more shipments of the phone. "The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible," Apple CEO Tim Cook says in a statement. "We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
