Gawker Claims Video Exists of Rob Ford Smoking Crack

Have you read any of the proceedings? It is looking grim for the Fords.

The editor in chief of the Globe put himself on the witness stand stating that the Globe had direct reports from 100 people on the Ford family involvement with the drug trade, including ten people who had themselves actually bought drugs from Doug Ford.
I will say it again: if anyone has questions regarding the journalistic integrity of the Toronto Star or the Globe and Mail ... you NEED to watch the proceedings.

To hear anyone call the media outlets who were forced to show up yesterday as having a left bias or as being irresponsible- watch what happened before saying foolish things.

Theres no way either paper will be found to have operated without journalistic integrity.

Your willfull blindness does not erase reality and proper journalism is not corrupt just cuz you don't like what is reported.

The complainent vs the globe and mail reminded me so much of people here. : she had no argumemt and honestly looked foolish.

Im sorry she epitomized Ford Nation die hard defenders to me.....

I wonder if at some point it will be found out that she is a cousin / old friend / former girlfriend of 1 of the Ford bros.

The Globe editor's statement is here:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...ontario-press-council/article14195711/?page=1
and it is quite compelling.

But come on we can't expect Ford to attend the hearing, he and his staff were busy with very important civic matters such as picking up second-hand football helmets that the mayor is not going to use.

You'd have to be stupid to believe Ford at this point.

That's ok fugi......go ahead and resort to personal attacks.

Because in the end unless a video is released, all it did was polarize the vote a bit ore than what it was.

No, its done more then that, its exposed Ford as lying, bad politician who pretends to be a one of the people.
He's been outplayed on every area, now with the TTC, why he even took back his donated football gear, outplayed by a high school.
I suspect that even Fuji would have a fighting chance against Ford in an election now.

That describes MOST, (if not all) politicians! So he fits right in.

Yep... he would. He ALSO fits the description: lying, cheating swindler, cares only about himself...

It may be that all or most politicians are so, but that doesn't mean you should support them when that knowledge becomes public. What you are now saying is that you think its ok for politicians to lie, cheat and swindle. By continuing to support him, you are enabling a corrupt system.

Ford is still not answering questions, now refusing to release documents for FOI requests.
http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2013/09/11/mayor_rob_fords_office_on_honour_system_to_release_all_requested_records.html

And he is still swindling the city by diverting city resources for his losing football hobby. The man is so inept he was fired from a volunteer job at the schools and now has left his second team in debt, even after asking for the return of all donated football equipment from his first school team.
http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2013/09/11/rob_ford_political_aide_still_helping_his_troubled_football_team.html

And to top it all of his biggest lie is that he's cutting taxes, which people still believe.

I DO NOT think its ok for politicians to lie, cheat and swindle.

I do not support him.

I have nothing but disdain for most politicians (regardless of political affiliation...) as well as our political system.

The problem is systemic. We have the illusion of "democracy", but not really... how can we... when all the candidates are essentially the same? If its not this group of assholes lying and stealing our money to fund whatever pet project they see fit, its a different group of assholes lying and stealing our money to fund whatever pet project they see fit. :frusty:

A nice concise description of the free market system. Aren't we supposed to believe it is A Good Thing?

Somewhere down the list of fringe candidates surely we must get to people who truly are running for noble ideals, high purposes and the common good. But instead of researching and finding and supporting such people to put them in office, we sneer at their naivete, demean their motives and ignore them for having no bandwagon.

When we pick, we let partisanship and groupthink blind us to their faults and make us oblivious or dismissive to the achievements of others. We demand they be instantly and always accessible and responsive to whatever latest hysteria we're pumping each other up with and then blame them for creating it. The last thing we look at are the pages and pages of real facts and figures that determine what might be a good plan for the City. And we never ever listen to someone because they did, unless they've wearing our label. Who but a fool would want such a job, unless they saw gold somewhere in the shitstorm?

In that world an self-involved sociopathic clown like Rob really was the best choice, though not for the City or its citizens. You and I may not have supported or voted for him, but disdain for all politicians and passive acceptance of such abysmal performance is why you, I—and all of us—got him. And he's thriving personally.

We could begin in a very small way by constantly reminding ourselves and everyone that government is a calling and a collaboration not a paying business, and that unless we are insane enough to think none at all is an option, it's gonna cost us. So let's look for good people to run it well, not vote for the guy who promises the cheapest job.

If you're the kinda guy who takes the lowest bid roofer by reflex, you won't understand the point, but I'm thinkin' ridgeman means you're wise enough to select and pay for a quality job to keep you snug, warm and dry.

We put Rob in the chair; he's our fault. Let's do better.

Yes OJ... we ARE supposed to believe it is a good thing. Problem is, it rarely (if ever) is.

In recent memory we've had a flip flop of supposed "messiah" governments at every level. The new guys were gonna come in and "fix" everything... or at least that is what we were told. Problem is, they rarely "fix" anything, and more often than not, end up fucking things up even more.

Federally:

Mulroney was going to fix Trudeau's fuck ups, (not counting Clark or Turner...), then
Chretien was going to fix Mulroney's fuck ups (not counting Campbell), then
Martin was going to fix Chretien's fuck ups... then
Harper was going to fix Martin/ Chretien's fuck ups...

Provincially:

Petersen was going to fix Davis's fuck-ups, (not counting Miller...), then
Rae was going to fix Petersen's fuck-ups, then
Harris was going to fix Rae's fuck-ups, then
McGuinty was going to fix Harris's fuck-ups

Municipally:

Well, we've had a whole series of mishaps from the likes of Egleton, Rowlands, Hall, Lastman, Miller and now Ford...

Somewhere down the list of fringe candidates surely we must get to people who truly are running for noble ideals, high purposes and the common good. But instead of researching and finding and supporting such people to put them in office, we sneer at their naivete, demean their motives and ignore them for having no bandwagon.

Which is why I said the problem is systemic. Its time for an overhaul! What the answer is? We will never know, Why? Because the politicians WANT this system, as do the corporations that REALLY run things.

In that world an self-involved sociopathic clown like Rob really was the best choice, though not for the City or its citizens. You and I may not have supported or voted for him, but disdain for all politicians and passive acceptance of such abysmal performance is why you, I—and all of us—got him. Again, a product of our highly flawed system. We rarely vote "for" the "best" person.... more often we vote "against" the other(s). To that end, what good choices are there, when all we have is the least worst to choose from?

We could begin in a very small way by constantly reminding ourselves and everyone that government is a calling and a collaboration not a paying business, and that unless we are insane enough to think none at all is an option, it's gonna cost us. So let's look for good people to run it well, not vote for the guy who promises the cheapest job.

Interesting that you used a roofing analogy, because if my roofer does a bad job, I can fire him, get a refund, call him back to fix the shoddy workmanship etc... what recourse do we have in politics? Nothing aside from voting them out next time around... however long that happens to be.

I would GLADLY pay for a quality politician! I just haven't seen one in my entire adult life.

To be fair, most if not all of these earnest fringe candidates with noble motivations are most passionate about fluoridation, or mind control rays, or aliens in their cornflakes. Unfortunately, things have come to such a pass that only the truly nutty have enough passion and tunnel vision to blunder through all the cynicism and murk that bogs down the rest of us in order to become a candidate.

We'd probably be a lot better off if we chose our leaders the way that old sci fi story suggests*: pick the person who least wants the job.

*errr, Kim Stanley Robinson? Not sure where I read it

Sure reads like Heinlein to me, but I couldn't find anything close on his quotes page.

The Heinlein I admire and respect would say it's our task either to find that worthy individual in the crowd of the unworthy and the obsessed, to step forward to do the job ourselves, or to shut up, if we think we have better things to do. Thankfully he never did any of them, except perhaps the first.

Our troubles, at least mayor-wise, arise from how many folks think they knew who and what they imagined they were against and how little they understood or cared who and what they were for.

Left-right labels pander to those fools. And they got their free plastic bags.

And the witch hunt is still alive.

The media is in court today to get some more information, including the warrant info for Said, the guy who tried to sell the video (reportedly to the police as well).
Previous info released included a 117 page document with 110 pages redacted.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2013/09/12/toronto-project-traveller-rob-ford-court.html
I just love when the media reports on a big story and that at the very bottom, almost as a footnote... includes something like:

CBC has never seen such a video and cannot verify its authenticity or whether it exists. Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford has insisted on various occasions that he is not addicted to crack, and denies any such video exists.
(Just enough of a disclaimer to keep all the lawyers happy...)

And you, as you said.

Good of you to point it out, as there have been many impassioned denunciations from posters here whenever a TERBian has omitted such disclaimers. It's clearly never safe to think that by now everyone knows only a few have see the video and even that is established only by their say-so and nothing else, so even its existence could be some sort of plot or group delusion, never mind whether it shows what has been described.

On the story: Forty some Search Warrents amounting to ten dozen or so pages and over a hundred of those have content the Defence can see and talk about in Court but we cannot. Amazing! Sure builds the eventual trials up into a circus.
