Is stage hypnotism fake ?

I think it works on some people and not others, likely for a wide variety of factors. I was in a group that was hypnotized, it did not work for me, but there were others in the group who had a great experience. It was a closed group so the hypnotist had no way of bringing in any shill factor; the same members of the group attend social functions together, no newbies. A few acquaintances claimed to be legitimately under, though nothing happened for me

This show looks very staged. I'm sure hypnotism is real in some form, but the people on stage were acting way too goofy.

Absolutely. My friend was shy & conservative and would never have done any of the things the hypnotist suggested if we wasn't under. I remember the Howard Stern show when one of his staff was sure that his penis was missing. The panic in his voice as he tried to figure out who stole it was clearly evident.

I had the same experience with my friend who went up on stage, I'd known him 20 years and he would NEVER have done any of those things that the hypnotist made him do.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if for any particular show the hypnotist keeps a couple of stooges in the audience just in case, but from my experience it DOES work on some people

I suspect there is at least one shill to ensure a good show and to lead by example

The rest are volunteers some of which do experience a light "trance"

When I went under, I was totally doing whatever he asked, but it was strange cause I could hear him say what he was going to get the volunteers to do and I remember consciously thinking "No way I'm doing that" then invariably found myself doing exactly what he suggested.

It is real, at least for this mentalist.

so you are aware of what is going on and remember everything ? but you cannot help but obey his command or are you doing so willingly ?

If you are doing so willingly then in what sense are you hypnotized ?

Are you just more willing to do what he says and can stop yourself if you want to but you just do not want to ?

Don't know about hypnotized. He did "knock us out" to outward appearances, but my mind was fully aware of everything he was saying and I was processing it. So I may have appeared "out" but I didn't lose consciousness

the most amazing aspect of this is it happens so quickly to a group with no one being individually concentrated on by the hypnotist

when i watched it only took 10 minutes to get those who could be hypnotized to be put under the spell

i am stunned that it is real

still, i strongly suspect that there is one or two shills that take the lead for everyone else to follow and those shills do the tricky stuff but then again i did not believe any of it was real originally so i could be wrong once again


also, i have to wonder why this is not used to help stop smoking etc


i have been to Positive Changes which is a franchise that hypnotizes people to stop smoking, lose weight etc and make positive changes in their life but the experience is nothing like you went through but that is just my own personal experience

also, it seems to me that anyone could become a hypnotist

i saw nothing done that a layman could not do with practice
