1. Cure for cancer
2. Cure for AIDS
3. Vaccine for AIDS
4. Cure for baldness
5. Cure for diabetes

You name it.

You read about it, you get your hopes up.

Actually I have a friend who is having immunotherapy. They have seen great results. Some masses shrinkage in tumors. I was a conference last month or so about it as well. Lots of great work being done there.

Might not be in our day, but closer then 5 years ago. Much much closer.

Name me the last major breakthrough on the big disease front?

You get cancer, it's one of 2 options - radiation, or chemotherapy.

Those are 2 terms I remember hearing 40 years ago when I was a kid. Here we are 40 years later and it's still "radiation" and "chemotherapy".

I just said a friend is getting immunotherapy. Clearly there is another option.

Ive had cancer and the type I had wouldn't have been cured 40 years ago now there's a 90% survival rate. So ya Id say three's been some progress

We can only hope someday that this terrible disease can be cured.With all the differant forms of cancer I think it's allong way off.I think everyone here knows someone in their family who has it,had it or died from it.

Cancer has no bias between race, culture, age, sex, religion or how much money you make. I usually think positive. But in this case cancer will never be cured. Treatment and medication has corrupted the world in believing we will be fine.

Exactly.

There's no money in a cure. There's lots of money in treatments to mitigate symptoms (but cause a host of side effects).

The big drug companies want you to have to swallow a beaker of pills for the rest of your miserable life. Lots of money in that.

Too much money to be made in looking for the cure.

I have cancer, terminal, and my prognosis two years ago was this September. I am not going to die by then nor any time soon after. I have had surgery, chemo, radiation, stem cell transplant .. they helped, but a $10K a month once a day pill keeps me above water for now and that pill wasn't available three years ago. That drug won't work forever, as some said, cancer isn't stupid it keeps changing in response to drugs. That said, I am kinda in the same boat as james t kirk, I don't have high hopes for major changes in my admittedly limited lifetime, if it happens GREAT but if not it has been a good run. One gets comfortable with the prognosis when there is no choice. It also helps to be a die hard atheist who knows that when I am done there is no pain. To be honest it is my family I worry about not myself. And if you are religious and you believe that is cool too, there are lots of you out there and maybe I am wrong (I doubt it but maybe).
