Unwritten laws of basic courtesy

My charming neighbor opted to start cutting his lawn at 8am on a holiday Monday. For others in the immediate neighborhood it could have been a rare chance to grab an extra hour or so of much needed rest in our increasingly hectic lives. Obviously not his problem, so too bad for everyone else.

Don't know what the bylaw time is (will check), maybe he's within his rights. But in my opinion, by the laws of basic courtesy this guy is a douce. You don't start mowing your lawn or working a jackhammer at 8am on a holiday or a weekend.

Any other unwritten laws of basic courtesy that you feel are violated too thoughtlessly by others?

I'm sure everybody has their own stories about inconsiderate neighbours and not everybody will agree on what is "common courtesy". Let's see how this thread develops.

Here is one example. I use to have an absentee landlord who rented rooms in his house across the street to college students. Well, we all know how college students love loud music, booze and parties that don't end until the sun rises.

I know what you mean. I had a neighbour once who used his chain saw at 7 AM on a Sunday morning. I gave him shit and he stopped. People are just very inconsiderate these days. Everyone thinks they have a sense of entitlement.

What's wrong with that? They want their driveways to be clear when they leave for work in the morning. Besides, the bylaw is that after 11 PM it's disturbing the peace.
I agree about the fireworks though.

I agree that lawn mowing before about 9 am on a weekend is pretty ignorant as that's when a lot of people want to sleep in. Fortunately, my neighbours are pretty good about that kind of thing. That's even though I'm sure it's tempting for the early risers to get it done before it gets too hot outside in the summer.

My next door neighbour was cutting stone for a new patio at 8 am yesterday, but it didn't bother me because that's not a regular thing.

This past winter, I had to force myself to not shovel snow after 10 pm. Regardless of the bylaw, my neighbourhood is pretty much lights out after 10 pm.

Any time, any place.

Not just the noise, but more than anything it's the very concept of blowing grass, dust, dirt off of the idiot's property and into the general environment / the street.

My lazy ass neighbour hires a lawn mowing service, even though we all have small properties and the 2 mouth-breathers were out there with leaf blowers just blowing the dust and shit into the environment.

I don't get too hung up about a working man firing up a skill saw or lawn mower, or jack hammer at 07:30 for that matter. It's gotta be done.

it depends where you live though, or how many trees you have. It might be part of the landscape all the fallen leaves and dust...
