R.B. Ford assaulted in Little Italy

The thing that sucks for this girl, if she is convicted of assault, she'll probably get a conditional discharge, but still some type of criminal record if I'm not mistaken.

So if she tries to cross border into US, the only thing that customs agent is gonna see is an assault charge, which means she might never be able to travel to US anymore.

Then again I'm not a lawyer, so WTF do I know
I doubt that.

She'll have to take an anger management course and her charges will be dropped.

An friend of mine got in scuffle a few months-ago that was minor but worse than this. After his anger course finished, his record is clear.

It does depend on her history, whether it was premeditated, any intent to cause physical harm, etc.

The guy who pied Chretien got a discharge but in other cases they have got suspended sentences or short jail terms served on weekends.

Sorry Fred, I gotta strongly disagree with you there.

Its now OK to throw drinks and fruit at our politicians if we dont agree with them??! This is wrong on so many levels. I really can't believe you just wrote that
The Queen has a private security detail but she has had eggs thrown at her numerous times in her career. I did not say that I condone it but it`s not a big deal. If you think it`s a big deal mark this young woman`s court date on your calendar, all she will get is a slap on the wrist or maybe she will be asked to do a few days community service, but she is not going to jail for ' assaulting`Rob Ford.

Rob Ford's alleged attacker: a university employee and yoga teacher
University of Ontario Institute of Technology worker Shannon Everett is accused of throwing a beverage at the mayor.

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/201...r_a_university_employee_and_yoga_teacher.html

The woman charged with assault for allegedly throwing a beverage at Mayor Rob Ford is a university employee, who also teaches yoga and won awards in high school.
Shannon Everett, 27, was charged Saturday afternoon at the Taste of Little Italy event. Witnesses said the woman involved looked extremely upset after the alleged incident, which paid-duty officers were quickly alerted to.
On Monday, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology confirmed that Everett is an employee at the Oshawa institution, where she’s listed as having worked since 2008 as a multimedia developer in the teaching and learning centre.
“I’ve been able to ascertain that she’s the same person that’s involved in this particular incident,” said Murray Lapp, UOIT vice-president of human resources and services.
“We’ll be talking to her, we’ll be having to make an assessment of what we do,” Lapp said, adding that would be private and the situation “is between her and the courts.”
Lapp added Everett “absolutely” is still an employee there and “she’s done good work for us in the past.”...................

An Oshawa university confirmed Monday that the woman accused of tossing juice at Mayor Rob Ford over the weekend is one of its employees.

Shannon Everett, 27, is listed on the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s website as a multimedia developer who has been working at the school since 2008.

“I learned about (the incident) on the news over the weekend,” UOIT spokesman Melissa Levy said. “It was confirmed this morning that Shannon is an employee of UOIT. (We) are not involved in the incident, but anything that has to do with her employment is a private employer-employee matter.”

Pay duty officers were alerted around 4:30 p.m. Saturday during the Taste of Little Italy festival on College St. that a woman had allegedly splashed a cup of juice — or possibly a Slushie — onto the mayor.

Everett was arrested and charged with assault, and later released, police said.

Councillor Doug Ford — who was also at Taste of Italy on Saturday — spoke with Everett after the alleged incident.

“She said she was sorry and she didn’t mean to do it,” Ford said. “She didn’t seem like she was in her right mind at the time.”

As part of her job description at the university, Everett is responsible for the creation and development of educational resources such as websites, videos, diagrams, photos, learning objects, and posters, according to the UOIT website.

She did not return calls Monday for interview requests through Skype, e-mail and phone.

According to a cached copy of her LinkedIn profile, Everett is also a yoga instructor who teaches a 50-minute class at UOIT two to three times a week.

She attended Royal Roads University from 2011 to 2012 and received a graduate certificate in learning and technology. She also studied at Fanshawe College for multimedia design and production, and the University of Western Ontario for media theory and production from 2004 to 2008.

She is working on her masters at UOIT and expects to complete it in 2014, according to LinkedIn.

Friends of the blonde-haired woman supported her.

Nathaniel Bacon, 26, said he went to high school with Everett in Fenelon Falls and although he hasn’t spoken to her in years, he always liked and respected her. He said the alleged juicing was blown out of proportion.

“She was always kind, very intelligent and thoughtful,” he said. “The girl I knew would never do something aggressive when unprovoked. Mr. Ford is, by reputation, very prone to outbursts and has well-documented difficulty controlling his emotions. Shannon has no such reputation.”

Everett is scheduled to appear in an Old City Hall courtroom on July 23

It was reported Shannon Everett took off after Ford got her splash before she was
arrested, Why ran away? Ford is so much hated she would have gained a lot of
support standing up for her deed. If she run for the Mayor in the next election I'd vote her
rather than Olivia Chow.

Somehow I bet you didn't react like this when Chretien got a pie in the face.

(That assault on a Liberal Prime Minister resulted in a discharge.)

The guy who hit Chretien was convicted. It was a discharge with condition.

Ford does not have to be vengeful against the woman to want to
see justice to be served. A sentence like a small fine or community
services as suggested in another post is in my view fairer than
unconditional discharge.

I get around.
She should use some of the Ford excuses rather than pleading guilty.

It wasn't me!
"I wasn't even at the Taste of Italy, so someone's trying to do a real hatchet job on me, let me tell you.
The cops were mistaken
The Toronto Sun confronts Ford about an arrest in Florida in 1999 for marijuana possession. Ford adamantly denies the charge: “I’m dead serious. When I say no, I mean never. No question, Now I’m getting offended. No means no.” He later acknowledges that he had “one joint in my back pocket.” The next day, he says his memory had been fuzzy because he had been charged with “failing to give a breath sample” that same night. But even that is not true: he was actually charged with driving under the influence, to which he pleaded no contest.
She felt threatened and had to do act fast
October 2011: Ford calls 911 on This Hour Has 22 Minutes actor Mary Walsh, who ambushed him in his driveway dressed as her character Marg Delahunty, “princess warrior.”
Holy christ, man! She was just standing there; Ford walked into her drink as it spilled and blamed her for it
4. April 2013: Ford walks face-first into a camera while attempting to evade reporters at City Hall. Grabbing his eye, he says, “Ah f--- man. Holy Christ. Holy — guys, have some respect. You just hit me in the face with a camera.” The incident is mocked by U.S. late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
The allegations are false.
"Thought it was a friendly hello to Toronto Mayor Rob Ford at the CJPAC Action Party tonight until he suggested I should have been in Florida with him last week because his wife wasn't there," she wrote early Friday morning. "Seriously wanted to punch him in the face. Happy International Women's Day!"

Reached by CBC News on Friday morning, Thomson said when the mayor made the comment about his wife and Florida, she shrugged it off. "Maybe he was treating me like one of the boys or whatever.

"And then we got our picture taken together, and he grabbed my ass, and at that point I said, OK, this is unacceptable."

In a Facebook comments thread, which had more than 1,000 comments and had been shared more than 1,200 times by 6:30 p.m. ET, Thomson said: "Guess where his hand was in this picture? I must go shower."

Mayor denies accusations

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Ford said Thomson was lying.

"Early this morning, false allegations were made regarding a number of disgusting actions," the statement read. "I am shocked, dismayed and surprised. I can say without hesitation that they are absolutely, completely false.

No big deal, an everyday occurrence no one ever complained about before.

Police have declined to explain what role Mr. Smith and Mr. Khattak played in the alleged gang or whether they have questioned Mr. Ford about his ties to the two men, but at a press conference Thursday afternoon, Chief Blair said that he was “aware of that picture.” He explained that the men posing with Mr. Ford “form part of this investigation. But I’m unable to disclose who’s been interviewed, what information’s been obtained.”

In previous interviews, Dennis Morris, Mr. Ford’s lawyer, has said the mayor has his photo taken with many people every day and likely would have no recollection of the photo ever being taken.
It's a made-up story, Ford's sanity is questionable
I don’t want to waste any more time on this. It’s not true,” Ford said on Sunday.

“I don’t know if [Thomson’s] playing with a full deck … When people want to make up stories, that’s their prerogative and we’ll leave it at that.”
A drink? No, it was a promotional stunt.
May 2013: Ford sprints out of a meeting of the Etobicoke York Community Council to slap “Rob Ford Mayor” fridge magnets on cars in the parking lot. He is investigated by city bylaw officers after a resident complains.
As an ex-coach, Ford should understand it was simply part of a training session.
http://www.thestar.com/news/city_ha..._a_football_coach_at_toronto_high_school.html
Ford was coaching at Newtonbrook Secondary School in North York in 2001 when he had a confrontation with a young player over poor performance on the field, say two witnesses who spoke with the Star on condition of anonymity.
Chris Spence, director of education for the Toronto District School Board, confirmed a dispute between a student and Ford was dealt with internally, although he was not aware of the details.
“Something did happen and they decided that he was no longer welcome to coach at Newtonbrook,” said Spence, himself a former pro football player who was not director of the board at the time.
Witnesses interviewed by the Star disagree on whether there was a physical confrontation between Ford and the student player.

Perhaps he didn't but many of us who didn't like him did. Reasonable people can disagree on policy and implementation without resorting to random acts of aggresion.
Some form of puishment to get the point across without permanently affecting her future is in order. Nice fine to cut into her drinking money and perhaps about 80 hours community service to take away her weekends for the summer would do just that, and deter others on ALL sides of political opinion from commiting acts like this in the future.

So two "wrongs make a right"? Are you condoning what she did? Whatever anyone thinks of actual and alledged previous actions by the Mayor this young lady was wrong to do what she did. Period. It wasn't an acceptable form of "protest". Period.
Or if it is I would be more than happy to head down to city hall and start throwing shoes at Adam Vaughn, Janet Davis et al. Apparently that is acceptable in some parts of the world too.......

It's grossly irresponsible that he's wasting taxpayer money by getting a security detail because he's scared of women. Remember how he cried like a bitch when Mary Walsh confronted him on camera?

Disgusting waste of money. He should man up and not be such a pussy.

You do have a point.
The acceptable form of protest here is not throwing shoes or drinks, its pies in the face.
I'm going to have to head to the bakery.

You do understand that neither Mayor Ford nor Citizen Ford is Police Constable Ford, nor Judge Ford?

Ford did not charge her. He has no ability to "drop the charges". The POLICE OFFICER laid the charges. A JUDGE will determine guilt if any, and any sentence.

Ahem...not that it matters to you but it was Rob Ford who has thus far refused a Security Guard and Driver.

Given the level of hatred that many have against him, who is to say what the next whack job is going to do, and who the next whack job will be.

As for "manning up and not being a pussy". You'd have an anyuerism if Ford actually did physically fight back if anyone tried to assault him.

And Ford would have a heart attack doing so! :faint:
