Well, I just got my renewal in the mail. All I can say is, the entire auto insurance industry is one of the biggest scams in this province. A total and utterly complete f&^%ing scam.

As premier Mom promises a 15% reduction, the companies have already jumped the gun and raised the rates by up to 15% or more, so that they are back to where they started, just to start their increases over again.

That's why I got my quote early in before the games began. Papers in hand and payment made. The hike was called by many and even if they are forced to lower them, which I doubt will happen, they'll get them elsewhere like house and business.

Yes, I just received my renewal and there is a 30% increase over last year.

No claims, no changes, just 30% more.

Fucking thieves.

Just to add fuel to the fire, did you guys know that recently the insurance companies cut your benefits by about 50%? So in reality you're paying 15-30% more and getting 50% less hahaahh

That's right. No changes. I even think the ratings decreased. But the premiums went up anyway.
There is no way to compare auto premiums year-over-year since it is a moving target. Nothing stays the same. Constantly changing.

As said in the recent thread in insurance, if you qualify try Grey power, saved ~30%. Maybe next year they'll stick to as i'm in, like Halifax did some time back. There should be no sense of loyalty anywhere. My ex quoted ~3200, but my new coverage ~2300. They did a serious background check over 2 days not just took my word over the phone on the spot, but with nothing to fear, go for it.

The 'background check' they did over 2 days took maybe 2 minutes. 2 reports. Autoplus which your insurance history and an MVR, your drivers abstract. These reports along with your vehicle and location rating groups are the only information they are allowed to use in rating and offering an application for a policy in line with the insurance companies underwriting rules filed with the FSCO. Borderline cases may be referred to underwriters at the insurance company (Grey Power are a brokers who are part of Intact Financial, formerly ING. Most of their policies are underwritten by Trafalgar), but even that decision takes maybe 30 mins or so.

I'm sure they did exactly that and the timeframe was to impress/scare me. again since I have had nothing to report for the last 25 years, I could care less. The information you imparted at the end was details I was aware of. They did have a number of question regarding my business and how my car was used conducting business, what equipment I carried and who were passengers from time to time, requiring call backs and delays. but that was it. Not the first time i'd been asked them.
