After Hezbollah troops helped in Assad's latest battles, major battles have broken out in Tripoli between factions in Lebanon's already less than stable system.

Tripoli braces for the worst as fighting enters fourth day

TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Tripoli residents feared further escalation of violence Wednesday as deadly clashes raged in the city for a third day Tuesday between supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar Assad, raising the death toll to at least 10 lives since hostilities erupted over the weekend.

Security sources identified Mohammad al-Rifi, a taxi driver, and Mohammad al-Asmar as two of Tuesday’s four fatalities.

More than 30 other people were wounded Tuesday as a result of the fighting between gunmen in the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood, where support for Assad is strong, and those in the Bab al-Tabbaneh district, which backs the Syrian uprising, the sources said.

Rifi was shot dead by gunfire as he drove his cab past Tripoli’s Mallouleh roundabout around midday, the sources said. They added that Asmar was killed by sniper fire.

In all, eight civilians and two soldiers have been killed and more than 70 others wounded since hostilities erupted Sunday, shortly after Syrian government troops, backed by elite fighters from Hezbollah, launched a major offensive in the rebel-held strategic city of Qusair near the border with Lebanon.

This fighting between armed factions has included mortar and RPG attacks. Too many of the militias have are well armed enough to challenge the army and the more the conflicts rage, the more they will want to increase their firepower. Numerous UNSC resolutions have demanded that all militias get disarmed but considering the strong influence one of these militias have in the government Lebanon will stay a mess.

Hezbollah is a proxy for Iran and notwithstanding the protestations to the contrary by its supporters the clown brothers it is a terrorist organization which does the dirty work for Iran. It hijacked the government of Lebanon with its threats and if it is successful in helping Assad stay in power it will claim its prize on behalf of Iran. So lets let Iran develop nuclear arms or the technology with which to develop them in the future.

I wonder if grog etc. change their view on rockets when they are used against Hezbollah?

Rockets hit Beirut's southern suburbs

At least five people injured as car dealership and residential building are hit in Lebanon's capital.

Two rockets have hit a district in the southern part of Lebanon's capital, wounding at least five people.

One rocket struck a car dealership in the Mar Mikhael district on the edge of Beirut on Sunday, injuring Syrian workers, security officials said.

Another rocket hit the second floor of an apartment building in the Shiyah district, about two kilometres away, without causing any injuries.

The area is a stronghold of the armed Shia group Hezbollah, which is backing government troops in neighbouring Syria in the battle against rebels seeking to topple President Bashar al-Assad.

Sunday's attack was the first time Beirut's mainly Shia southern suburbs have been targeted during the two-year-old Syrian conflict, and came just a day after a speech in which Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah committed to fighting in the war.

Marwan Sharbel, the country's interior minister, visited the area where the rockets fell, saying they were fired from the southeastern side of the area but that it was too early to know who fired them.

It was an act of "sabotage", he said.

The army said it found two abandoned rocket launchers in woods near Aitat in the Mount Lebanon area, about 13km southeast of where they hit.

This a day after Hezbollah's leader vowed to send more troops to support Assad.

These rockets mostly likely came from Lebanon itself by those who don't like Hezballah, there are no shortage of candidates. The Free Syrian Army doesn't have the capability of carrying out such an attack from their territory, because if they did they wouldn't waste it on Nasrallah, they would aim it towards Mount Qasioun and hope it lands right on Bashar and Maher's heads.

Replace 'IRA' with 'Israel' and we know rock would have company.
Just messing with Fuji. Guess he never got the memo that the IRA is longer in existence, decommissioned and disarmed. Also, the IRA is not and has never been on Canada's designated list of terrorist organizations, however, al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbolla among others are on Canada's list of terrorist organizations.

the IRA doesnt exist? oh really, the Real IRA, Continuity IRA and Óglaigh na hÉireann are just imaginary fiction hmm? the IRA never got that designation in Canada probably due to some slick campaigning by the likes of you sitting 5 time zones away in pubs and going on about the "revolution" and the "glory of the revolution" safe and sound from car bombings, shootings and knee capping. Now tell us more about those Irish slaves again?

If you really care about people getting hurt, you should spend more time worrying about Hamas, al-Qaeda, Hezbolla, etc. However, I guess it is easier for terrorist apologists like you to blame the defunct IRA.

This will sound harsh and I never (or rarely) said it before but if the folks in the Middle East had any brains they would use the Belfast Accord as a template to settle their conflicts.

keep it up white terrorist lover, deflecting a question you been asked, by the way I bet you also support ETA which are long time pals of your murdering mates the IRA? As for the people in the Middle East with "less brains" unlike you I dont look at all nations, peoples and conflicts as the same, each one has it's own historical context and social context, those who say that it happened in country X so it will happen in country Y are just intellectually lazy. The Good Friday Agreement has continually worked for the most part because both communities have grown tired of conflict, death and destruction, and also the fact each side has given up something in return for gaining something, but I will let you get back to your signing The Boys of the Old Brigade with your buddies in your comfortable pub.

On that point we agree. I won't comment on the rest of your post which is full of hyperboles.

the dodging of questions continues, just come out and say you think some people who place bombs in shopping malls, pubs and Remembrance Day parades and kill civilians who have nothing to do with their conflict are justified in their actions, then we can all move on.

That is why Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, the Taliban, among others, are designated as terrorist organizations by Canada and other countries.

Canada certainly considered the IRA to be a terrorist organization, but we didn't start making official lists until the peace process was fairly advanced there.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that civilized people anywhere were ever OK with the sort of savage behavior the IRA engaged in -- blowing up children!!!

Were any children killed at Deir Yassin? If so, how many?
