Got a lovely little picture of my vehicle going through a red light. Apparently the light was red for .007 seconds as I drove through. This fine with victim surcharges, and donation to the Hazel Mccallion retirement fund totals $325 !!!! Is this shit for real ? Fuuuuuck me. Don't they know where I'd RATHER spend that money ?

Let me be the first to say it.

Don't drive through red lights and kill someone.

I know it hurts the pocket and you will lose points but imagine if you would have killed somebody running a red light? We are supposed to stop on amber.

The Highway Traffic Act of Ontario section 144.15 states:
"Every driver approaching a traffic control signal showing a circular amber light and facing the light shall stop his or her vehicle if he or she can do so safely, otherwise he or she may proceed with caution."

What's worse is also that when your wife asks : "Honey why were you in that area at that time?"

Ancient advise, yellow lights means to slow down, not to speed up.

I'm not sensing the love in this thread.

That is a racist diagram. WTF has it got to do with idiots who drive through red lights?
It is indeed racist!

And baseless. Completely baseless. I just pulled it out of my ass.

I realize it is unfair to categorize all of any group into a stereotype, when it is only 95% of chinese drivers that give the rest a bad name! Sawweee!

But seriously, Markham only ranks #9 in accident rates in Ontario.

Brampton was #1, Ajax #2, then Maple, Thornhill and Toronto

It hurts the pocket but does NOT cost any points at all if you just pay it.

If it was a Cop that saw you go through the Red, you would get points as well.

Pay and count yourself lucky. Speaking from experience. Also these tickets are sent to the Registered owner of the vehicle not the driver.

Yes, I most certainly did drive through the red light. At 6:30 in the morning on my way to see a customer that HAD to meet me at 7. Me, kind of lost looking at google freaking maps with one eye, and yes I saw the yellow light. I did look for traffic, and I remember the red light camera sign as I crossed. I don't have an issue with being fined, but I find the penalty agregious. $325 ? For what is basically a tax...or sin tax if you will. I have 1 speeding ticket in the last seven years, and no accidents in my life, other than a deer crossing my path at 2 am one morning.
I'll definitely be paying it, what choice do I have ? Fight it, probably miss a day of work, and it'll cost me more than the fine.
I'm just venting...

you can fight it or a "first appearance". the prosecutor will probably knock a bit off the fine. like you said though between paying the fine and losing a day of work it's not really worth it. next time slow down on the yellow. being a few mins late won't kill you unless you run a red light and get caught by a camera or hope not another car.

Let me guess... you live in Markham?
Your racist comment doesn't make sense. My experience of the Chinese drivers in Markham is that most of them drive slowly, conservatively, and sometimes badly, due to lack of basic driving skills and poor road etiquette. However, I'm one of the few assholes who races through amber lights.

Have you ever heard of the show "All in The Family"?

It was an early 70's sitcom that used racism, sexism etc to parody bigotry and stereotypes.

As soon as the light turns red...the camera will shoot 3 pics....But no points...unless they show your face pic and can prove it was you behind the wheel.....I know someone who actually stopped with his trucks nose...over the line...he stopped...reversed back out...so he NEVER went thru the light/intersection...and he still got dinged...for the 335.....

He tried to fight it...but you only get 7 days to file a notice to defend...and he got the letter in the mail on the 9th day.....gotta love the postal service...LOL
