GWB was President for 8 years.
I don't want to talk about GWB, I want to talk about Hazel McCallion and her conflict of interest case (decision due within 2 weeks). Isn't featherbedding your son's bank account with $11 million of taxpayer money more evil than some shit that Rob might or might have smoked in a video that nobody can find now?

All conservatives love to talk about is spending lol....cities need investment, its the mayor's job to bring in more money this way and from the upper levels of government. Besides the Casino BS, what other sources of revenue has Rob Ford opted for? Why are his numbers so low in the downtown care? He's never done anything right in the dots core and doesn't even understand the culture there.

Its always the less educated segment of society that votes right wing.
Actuallly its not spending I have an issue with. Its Bad spending. I'm all for repairing the Gardiner. Replacing the watermains. Expanding transit.
But a fair bit of money is wasted in my opinion. Enough to pay for these core capital issues that need to be dealt with. I am educated and do follow the issues. I do want a vibrant city. But the core infrastructure spending has kept being put off to pay for what I call "social engineering". That is what a civic govt first priority is.
Don't be insulting. Show me solutions.

For one thing, the private garbage collection company west of Yonge (which was supposed to save us millions a year) elected to perform the named collection during rush hour, both morning and evening. The trucks are always in the way on the narrow streets and there's a ton of traffic every morning and evening. Not sure if anyone is actually saving any money as people are probably late for work all the time.

That's a real nasty jump there. And highly insulting. Its one thing to have difference of opinion on the political scene. But now you actually equate support for the Mayors agenda with someone who would support pedophilia? Wow just wow. Obviously you aren't capable of having a reasoned discussion at this point. Seriously. Get your head out of your ass. Try to be an adult.
Insulting? Ford has insulted the intelligence of every thinking Torontonian ( refusing to address the allegations in a direct way)....being a liar, a crackhead, a sexist , a racist and a homophobe hasn't shaken your faith in the clown yet. I'm just wondering what, if anything, it would take for "Ford Nation" to admit they are championing an absolute turkey.

Ok so who did all the Ford haters vote for and why. And "not ford" is not a valid answer. Tell me the policies that make you want to vote for Smitherman, Rossi, or Thompson. (OJ you are excused as you have answered this quite well in the past).

As for the rest tell me why the candidate you supported would have been better. Point out things in their history that showed how good they would be. Show me the policy points that would have made them better.

Convince me my vote to get the Unions under control, spending under control (which was the basis for my vote) would have been better with one of the other candidates.

I await the wisdom.......

John Tory.....(you think all the Ford haters are rabid socialists who just want to pay more taxes ? Wrong.)

I'll agree with you and Pointz (in his reply to me). I don't know the guy's personality but he definitely doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the house.

But when I read the Toronto Star, I was amazed that the rag would be taken as serious journalism.
Are you new in town? The Star has been chronicling and participating in the development of this community since the horse and buggy days....you must be thinking of the Sun.

Hey I agree with Tory over Ford 100%. But who did you vote for in the last election? And why?

And I still stand by the other statement. Pedophilia is not cool as a comparison. Under any circumstances. Period. You need to retract this statement as it goes to your credibility. Intelligent people can disagree. That type of comment is pure troll. I hope you are better than that.

Voted for Pantalone mostly because of his transit plans and tax reductions proposal for condominiums which made sense to me.

Let me guess... you own a condominium and want your taxes to go down?

And you take transit and you want more money spent on it?

Anything wrong with that? My vote goes to wherever I feel is right. Not up for discussion, topic closed.

Of course not, vote for whoever promises to bribe you with your own money to get the nice cushy job. Problem is that you can't lower taxes AND spend more. I suppose you want to raise OTHER people's taxes and spend more on your stuff!

That's how we get into deficit situations and end up with insurmountable debt.

I'm kinda new to reading Canadian papers occasionally. But to me, the Star seems like the left wing loony version of the Sun. I only found Globe and Mail to be well written.

I'm not that old to know about Mayors you've mentioned above.
What I know about Lastman's era is: Sheppard line was one of the most expensive per meter subway projects in the world. It also took forever to build even though it was like 5km long.

Miller started renovations of the yonge subway line that has dragged to this day. And from what I can tell, they haven't done jack all other than remove aluminum siding at stations and painted stucco...

Also, (and correct me if i'm wrong) both Lastman and Miller were in office during economic expansion, leaving the city with a large deficit upon their departure.
Cities in Ontario are prohibited by law from running deficits. Your unjustifiable contention was that no previous Mayor was any better than Ford. And you put it as a question, that I answered. I don't give a pinch how old you are or aren't, all I'm concerned with is whether someone joining the conversation knows what she's talking about and how much trust to put in what she says. There's always research if you weren't around, or weren't paying attention at the time.

Frankly, I don't care which Mayor you think is bad, or even if you think they all are. But in our democracy it's people who haven't thought or researched their opinions who put those bad guys into office, and that is something I care about a lot.

Ok I don't know if he smokes crack, But if it was in a court of law the prosecution has to prove the case against him, so to me its the Toronto Star who is the prosecution and they have to prove it, and they haven't. Personally I don't care about the Fords.

500 isn't hat big a rally for a beautiful saturday. Considering the supposed outrage of the city according to the media. Most of them were probably the usual suspects who head down there at the drop of the hat.
As for Ford supporters most aren't proffessional protesters. Just good middle class hardworking folk who would rather spend time with family and friends then lend credibility to these attacks.
Actually, the common thread in the media reports is how little this is affecting public opinion and how Rob's popularity numbers have remained stable. Perhaps you'd like to show us how easy it is to back unsupported allegations with facts and quote some that support yours.

I hope he does not resign. Regardless of your opinion of Rob Ford, it would be an outrage to have him removed from office based on unproved allegations. As far as pursuing litigation against the Toronto Star, there is little to pursue. If you read the articles they are very careful to say that the video 'appears' to be Rob Ford, not that it is Rob Ford. Every published attack on Ford has been vetted by the corporate legal team to minimize their exposure. If Ford is out of office for any other reason than a public election, then you might as well let the Star appoint the next mayor. I am not a big Rob Ford fan, but this endless harassment and persecution by the Star goes too far.
It isn't 'removed from office' if he decides to resign. The worst you could say is 'pressured to resign', there's really no way to remove a Mayor, not even to force him to resign.

You're quite right in your description of the careful way the Star said what it knew, and made sure it did not say what it had no evidence for. It's basic Journalism 101, and you must have encountered many examples of the same thing before. Chief Executives—like For—resign when they cannot get enough supporting votes to get anything they propose actually done. That's what a non-confidence vote tells them, and why it triggers a federal or provincial election. But we began to see Rob didn't have much in the way of concrete proposals or plans, and he's just one voice at Council anyway, so others have stepped into and filled his vaccuum long ago.

He can stick around as long as he can put up with the media mess and attention, and whatever distrust he's sensitive enough to notice coming his way. Council's used to doing withou much of a Mayor, and no longer expects much. But what would be nice for all of us, including Rob, would be for him to continue the start he made with first two sentence denial he later amended. If the Star can lawyer up a detailed account of what its reporters think they saw, why can't a rich and resourceful Mayor simply lawyer up a line-by line denial of it?

'I do not smoke crack [But did you never smoke it?], I am not addicted to crack [What about other drugs, like alcohol? Ever have been? Only asked because you brought it up Rob.], the video does not exist [Is that because it has been bought, or grabbed and then destroyed?]' was a week late and a pound short when it landed, with as many logic holes as a Swiss cheese. The perception that it was the best he could come up with or that his lawyers could permit is doing nothing to calm the waters.
