They faced a genocide in their country, they had been forced into Jewish camps, and the camps were under increasing military threat. They were going to be massacred. Nobody helped. Nobody cared.

Nobody but Israel. Israel diverted all available El Al and IDF aircraft and staged one of the largest air evacuations in history, if not the largest, sending plane after plane after plane, and got them all out of there.

So I think they know they are welcomed, despite the difficulties in integrating a largely poor and illiterate population.

What did happen is the Israel only chose to help Ethiopian Jews. They left every other Ethiopian in the same situation there. So much for the milk of human kindness.
