Which professions do you respect the most? Which do you respect the least?

Hi everyone! I thought I pose two questions to those of you on TERB:

(1) Which professions do you respect the most?

(2) Which professions do you respect the least?

As for me, my answers are the following: (1) scientists, engineers, medical researchers (and many of the SPs I've seen ;)); (2) politicians, lawyers, religious leaders (I suspect these would be the most popular replies amongst the TERB community).

1. The cum rag washer at my fave rub n tug.

2. Anyone who deals in false hopes or preys on the weaknesses of others. Drug dealers, faith healers and the guy who sells magic hair growth serum on TSC.

Actually, I agree with Simon on both counts. Amazing.

As I reflected on this, I realized that the only times I have truly loathed someone is to hear them brag about how they "game the system". It doesn't have to welfare. It can be employment benefits. I remember one guy who bragged about how his whole family (uncles, father, brothers) had figured out the system and they were able to get a steady paycheque from their employers by working the union rules. And this douche was telling this to my buddy's 17 year old son who was trying to figure out what to do with his life.

As for religious leaders, I find that many are in the job because they failed elsewhere. I have little respect for them. BUT, for the few who are truly called, and show a deep understanding of faith and humanity, I have the highest respect.

1) Crime scene clean-up workers

2) Any profession where they have it better than the majority but still manage to bitch the most. (Teachers come to mind)

Not as overpaid as the plumber who charged me only a little
more than 100 bucks to unblock my bathtub drain.
He had to drive there, then realize you were wasting his time by doing something YOU could have easily done. I say its fair. No offense to you, but you probably took him away from another job that would have paid the same or more.

Corrupt politicians, you bet. Not all are bad; just most.

Yeah a drug dealer has to take the risk of going to jail
to feed a hungry child at home.
So the end justifies the means?

Generally, I have a problem with that statement because it implies that dealing drugs is a foregone course of action. I don't buy that. It's not the only choice; it's just a choice.

Professions to me include lawyers, accountants, doctors, architects, and engineers.

The other vocations are trades or civil servants.

I'm impressed by any profession or trade who's good at what they do and take their job seriously.

I'm not impressed by unscrupulous stock brokers, real estate agents, and insurance agents.
