Having said that , the more I think about this story the less I believe it. Something just doesn't ring true. If this guy was a new client how exactly did he get her real life background. I'm not buying the Facebook photo. Even if she did send him a face photo what are the odds of matching that with some legitimate photo on Facebook? Hard to believe he was able to do that. What are the odds 1 in a million?
Not at all. All it would take is a reverse image search of a picture from her website that she'd also posted on Facebook. Not the brightest idea, but I can see a young woman excited about having professional pictures posting one or two online. Something similar happened on another website I'm on recently, and a person was tracked from an anonymous profile to Facebook, then to their LinkedIn and ultimately to their home address. The internet is one huge paper trail.

My first client decided he wanted to spend 3 day weekends with me, and he always paid for a full flex air ticket in my name, and the fee in advance. It sounds foolish to accept anything less.

As predictable an arrival as a German train!

Or a pic she sent to the client. And I understand that there are already some test sites that do facial recognition, so some time in the not so distant future... it will be even more common.

What kind of idiot who can barely come up with $1,500 and lives with his mom commits to a $7,000 engagement?
It's not the way they imply it in the story, but my thought is his elderly mom (he's 53, his mom probably is in her 70's at least) lives with him, and he takes care of her.

Did he actually have access to the money...but chickened out? Not sure where this was going.
Maybe he got the wrong vibe from the phone calls and texts he sent her, which she described as "creepy".

Yeah, this guy was so clever he was 58 and still living in his mother's basement.
There is no mention of this.

This part is believable. On dating sides I routinely google image search people's profile pictures and frequently that leads to more information, often a fb page where I can view their "real" pictures and see that they are actually quite fat lol.

People tend to have a favorite picture they reuse.

An escort should be vigilant about that, not use the same pics, and lock down their fb privacy settings, but not everyone is aware that your can search facebook by photo.

From the Toronto Sun article:
"Turns out the man she thought was 46 and capable of hiring a high-end escort was actually 58 and living with his mom."
Living with his mom, not living in his mother's basement. If he's 58, she's 70+. It's more likely he's taking care of her.

she should have given the deposit back, minus any preparations costs she had incurred (my thoughts is $0 at that point). It's not like she was hurting for cash. She decided to be greedy and take a hard-line on her non-refundable stance, profiting from absolutely nothing. He had a good reason to be angry with her.

As a full time student / part time SP I only averaged $10k a month. If I had set a side a 3 day weekend because someone had booked it and sent a deposit I would not have been looking for back up work. I would not have made my $10k for the month if someone had cost me my working weekend. So of course I would have kept the money. This was not a regular client who after several sessions had to cancel or re-book one. It was a new guy who was pulling the plug.

except you never had any clients and have no experience in the industry to speak of.

OK I give you that, I thought you realized that other posters using "in the basement" was factitious.

A letter from a lawyer friend to his home that he would be reported to the police for trying to extort her might have sufficed too. Doesn't take much to commit extortion.

Read the article. Even before medical school tuition fees and books, her living costs are about $4,000 per month. She breaks even at gross income of $5,000 per month.
Yeah right, do you think they audited her to come up with those figures or took her word for it?
