Another shutout win !
Kessel scores winner !
As mentioned the Leafs are playing with confidence right now.

Fully aware of the opponents back to back SOs ! ! !

Next up; tonight in Tampa.
Is how Reimer and Scrivens are playing a reflection on Wilson gone or that famous goalie coach gone ?

Hope we don't overwork Scrivens.
They could give the kid Rynnas a look. See what they have and how far along he is.
Also I do not think Reimer is too far away from returning.

Can't argue with success but still allowing around 34-37 shots against in every game. Lots of fighting majors so far. Damn, Tampa Bay just scored.

The problem last night was that our goalie didn't face the usual 34-37 shots (only 19). Our goalies need lots of shots against to stay sharp and "in the game".

Leafs just have to play a tough game and they should win since the Sabres are no longer a Ruff team to play.

Someone would have said if I did not.

I am enjoying the Leaf start but even with such a great start they are only 3 points up on a playoff spot . It shows the level of hockey it takes to make the playoffs .

By contrast they are only three points out of first in the conference.

Yes ... But my point is ... This is the level of hockey and rate of winning which is required to make the playoffs .. I don't care how close we are too the top . I am more interested about the distance we can make from the bottom ie 9th .

Another decent effort by the Leafs at home.

The hockey seems not that sharp. Tonight both teams look tired. Special teams were the difference tonight, and that goalie interference penalty.

The defensive pairings are interesting, I realized yesterday, that Carlysle has an offensive defense man paired with a stay at home defense man. That's 1970's hockey. I think that had changed over the years because of the trap, and that there really never is that many offensive minded defense man around.

That's why Fraser has a big +/- number, because Franson is making plays and the puck winds up in the net at the other end.

Playing Phaneuf with a real big body in Holzer, that is nice to watch. Phaneuf plays with an edge. Holzer when he takes someone out along the boards, he may not wipe them out but he takes the man out of the play. With Carlsyle playing that pairing against the best line on the opposition, usually skilled forwards, this pairing is not easy to play against. The play down low in your own zone, and usually the Leafs come away with the puck.

It is disappointing to watch Kulemin not scoring. Has the skills but no goals for long long strectches.

When Lupal comes back, will they put Lupal on a line with Kessel and JVR? If they do, who plays center? I like to see Kessel at center.

Go Leafs Go!

I'm impressed with the feisty 4th line and they occasionally chip in with a goal here and there.
I don't remember any Leaf team with this amount of skill with turculence.

We probably have to go back to Daryl Stitler, Lanny MacDonald, and Dave Tiger Williams.

The plays Kessels have made to JVR, they are something to watch, just as good as any Mats Sundin play he made.

Still, I think the key to this Leafs team in this season so far is the back end, the play in the defensive zone. I really don't remember the last Leafs group of defense man that were this tough and physical. They clear the front of the net, Holzer, Frazer, and Kosta.

Another low scoring game the Leafs found a way to win.

True but they consistently allow over 30 shots against almost every game. I know SOG doesn't tell the whole story but still.

Kessel gets two ! Two assists that is. Meh, go with what you get.
JVR scores two !

Ottawa up next.
Anderson tweaks knee. May not play on Saturday night.
The Sens should trade Karlsson since they are winning without him.

Go Leafs !

Reimer and Lupul are skating which means, hopefully, they are not far from a return to playing.

Tonight HNIC Leafs at Ottawa
The Leafs are on the road to play that joke of a franchise(actually more the owner/management) the Ottawa 'We do not want Leaf fans in our building' Senators.
I did not think the sportscasters were serious when I first heard about this.
Fining and/or taking away an Ottawa fans future season ticket rights(this is what Ottawa management is threatening to do to it's own fans) if they sell to Leaf fans ? Really Eugene(as in Melnyk, the Ottawa Senators owner), this the best idea you can come up with ?
Eugene was also a loud whiner during the off season about how some teams could afford to bury contracts in the 'A' while others, like Ottawa, could not.
I hope Leaf fans posing as Sens fans scoop up as many tickets as possible and cheer on the Leafs in 'the arena in the middle of no where'.

Furthermore, continuing to boo Capt Clown in the Sens own building is great, to those in attendence tonight ... keep it up. :thumb:
On the road it is amusing, but at home(in Ottawa) it is down right hilarious.

As for the game, Reimer, Fratten and Lupul are still on IR, Gardiner has not regained his 2012 form and is still with the Marlies and for the Sens Spezza, Karlsson and now Anderson are out of action.

Leafs should win this game, but that is when you sometimes get a nasty surprise.

Leafs 5 Sens 1.

Go Leafs !
