i was in zet's this evening picking up dinner. a guy in an expensive looking suit was sitting with his equally expensive looking suit friends. i walked in and he actually stopped chewing to look me up and down and rolled his eyes, then started to whisper at his friends who then all turned to look at me. then they started to laugh among themselves.

i was wearing beat up shoes, pants with snow to the knees, a jacket with a tear in it and my hair was messed up and it wasn't tied back as tight as it was. i had just finished shoveling the driveway of a man in his 60's who has been a friend of the family for 40 years, walks on 2 canes and was just diagnosed with 2 golf ball size tumors in his liver and will probably not live to see the summer.

where i was isn't really important to the story, it is just amazing to me that in 2013 people still get judged on how they look and if you think you have money all of a sudden you are better than someone else.

I have witnessed this attitude in Canada many times. Shopping malls, restaurants, bars, hotels, airlines, etc.

Sorry to hear you had to experience it. Regardless of what you were doing, either helping another human being or just choosing not to dress up that day, it just shows how narrow minded people can be.

Best way to eradicate this attitude is education to the new generation. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Stand your ground, dress like that all the time and go to where people wear suits. If they give you the attitude then you should just walk right up and look them in the eye and say: I am just as good as you! To hell with fancy dress and fashion, you should have pointed back at the guys laughing at you and called them Dappy Dans.

it's not the first time, it just hadn't happened in a while. i thought maybe that attitude had gone away. it was nearly a year since it happened and last time it did i said something. this time i was just tired and hungry and wanted to order and leave.

last year i was at the airport and i was right behind the guy, he looked and gave me a disgusted look then leaned into his friend, who then turned and gave me a disgusted look. all i did was say if you are gonna talk about someone make sure they can't hear you when you do and left it at that. i am not always looking for confrontation but sometimes it's hard to let things go. i could go on and on about things that have been done to me based on my appearance but it doesn't much matter. it was more of a commentary on how fucked up it is that people still get judged based on how they look.

All show

Thing is,...a lot of these "well dressed" ass holes are living pay check to pay check with credit cards maxed, which means they are paying 20% of their income to look like somebody they aren't.

I wonder what would happen if you visited an SP dressed like that, compared to having a suit on? Do you think you'd get better service with the suit and pretended to be a potential repeat client?

Clothing, shoes, r cuts, and the amount of facial hair are just another kind of uniform. People most often prefer being with people who are in their own 'army'.

kinda shit has been happening long before she was famous. i remember walking with my little girl down the street and having eggs thrown at me. i was in downtown toronto and had a truck full of guys drive by and yell freak at me while walking with my girlfriend. i could go on but i am sure you get the point.

You can take it two ways, firstly, the guy is a douchbag, sure. But isn't it a great thing that all you have to do is put on a suit, shave and get a nice haircut to make people think you are the shit... how easy is that. lol...

funny thing is. i think virginjohn is right. its not just guys that judge and treat you accordingly strictly and completely by appearances majorly. the women do it too and are by no means an exception. they are completely and strictly, just as shallow as the guys.

here's an example, back in the days when they had freak shows at the circus. women would attend to see the displays just as much as men. thats the way i think of it.

You should head on down to Zellers and get a suit for 70% off and show those nasty dandies at Zet's the next time you go there that you are a paying customer and not just a guy asking for left overs. I think it has more to do with the confidence one exudes, I do not wear suits and I never get treated badly.

well i do look like the "bad boy" and that has helped me out in the past. in my 30's though i don't see it helping me much. women today go for the douche bag that will make them cry on the shoulder of the cute nerdy guy that is everything they say they want but have put in the friendzone, then after he makes them feel better they call and tell him about the new douche bag that is going to make them hurt and cry and run back to the guy they claim to want but never go near lol. it is a stupid circle and could be a whole other thread.
