Samsung Allegedly Tries to “Cover Up” Fatal Acid Gas Leak

Funny. I didn't see any of our resident Anti-Apple trolls post this story. They were pretty observant on posting about Apple and Chinese labour. Hope its not because they only care about slamming Apple.

According to Yonhap News Agency and AsiaE, Samsung's Semiconductor plant in Hwaseong, Korea, suffered a hydrofluoric acid leak at one of its 500 liter (132 gallon) tanks.

Around 1 liter (2.6 gallons) of acid is said to have escaped during two leaks, one at 11 PM yesterday (January 27) and another at 5 AM today (January 28).

The sequence of events hasn't been established yet, and Samsung may get off scot-free if this turns out to be just an unfortunate misunderstanding. Still, a death demands nothing less than a full investigation.

Samsung allegedly called a maintenance firm, local time (STI Service), but did not report the problem to the proper authorities before 3 PM today, by which time a worker from the firm had already died (around 2 PM).

Four other STI workers ended up in the hospital but they, at the very least, have made a full recovery.

Samsung is being investigated for not having reported the problem earlier, and for whether or not this was an attempted cover-up. It isn't clear yet if the law required that such a report be made or not.

you can try and TROLL responses all you want, but i haven't seen this in any of my news feeds,but then again i don't use softpedia for my news sources. after reading that, I checked for more news on my feeds and there is nothing there. I then googled the story to find a few tech sites reporting it,but none of the major news networks.

A maintenance contractor called out to fix a hydrofluoric acid leak at a Samsung plant has died after being taken to a hospital, according to Korean media. Four others were injured by the lethal gas but have reportedly been discharged by doctors. The factory in question is located within South Korea, which isn't known for the sort of lax safety standards that plague workers in China, but AsiaE reports the accident will nevertheless be investigated to find out if any laws were breached in the way the leak was handled, and if the killed contractor was wearing the right protective gear. For the sake of context, it's worth remembering that even state-of-the-art installations can be prone to accidents -- in 2011, for example, seven American workers were injured in an explosion at Intel's semiconductor fab in Arizona.

as indicated an investigation is underway and Samsung should take responsibility if there is any wrong doing on their part.

Nasty stuff indeed!
Used to work with HF and they always stressed safety and the dangers involved with it. They always made a point of telling us what painful emergency hospital treatments you were in for, if you ever got some on you or splashed some on yourself.....
