This guy makes like $100 million a year and is a complete waste of oxygen. A useless contributor to society. His latest fiasco is calling Lena Howard "fatgirl". Totally unnecessary and uncalled for.
Well? Did you listen to the interview in its entirety before making your conclusions ?

he is actually quite brilliant if you care to understand the nuance of his technique.
the best interviewers and top media people hold him in high regard.
This is a true Howard Stern fan - reminds me of the God like worship that some Apple fans have for Steve Jobs. I've listened to Howard for years when I was living in NYC. He was funny, dirty and certainly opinionated but you have to take everything he tells you with a grain of salt. The size of his audience brings in celebrities that endure his rather stupid and predictable interviewing style but you are more likely to get better interviews of these celebrities through Letterman or Leno.

Howard is tolerated but not respected. He has petty feuds and will carry a grudge that will bias any movie or entertainment project that you are involved in - so you go along and grit you teeth. When Howard divorced his wife, he would not discuss it on his show even though he ripped any guest who wanted an equal right to his private life. Howard is a self-absorbed egotistical troll - but fun morning entertainment - nothing more.

Haven't listened for a long time and I have Sirius!
On his game he's a genius. He's also very intelligent and he really surprised me how sensible he was on AGT.

Have listened to Stern since his very first day on NY radio on the old WNBC.
When did I become hooked? The first time he farted on the air. Said he wanted to do something to get suspended because the weather was nice and he needed a 3 day wknd.
In his first book he wrote about that day, that the GM had called him into the office to tell him he was being suspended the next day for something they didn't like he did previous day. As he told it, he figured screw that, I'm gonna make it so that the suspension was my idea.
You know how people say 'I was driving and laughed so hard I had to pull over'? To me that is and always will be the funniest sound on the planet.

definitely no god-like worship on my part. i agree with much of what you said (egotistical self absorbed hypocritical) agree with your ex wife example. what pisses me off is he always asks the net worth question but will never utter a word re his finances. but i dont think he is a troll.

but his interviews now (latter part of his career) are very good. one of the first interviews i heard him do was tarantino for well over an hour, uncensored. no way letterman can get into it that deep in a 15 min national TV interview. (so yes its partly a function of the stage howard has). he did a very good interview with kevin bacon last week, got him to open up quite a lot. anyway i agree the gimmicky stuff nothing special, but i like the interviews that show people in much different light than what conventional interviewers are able to do given their stage.

Waste of oxygen? He's entitled to oxygen as much as anyone else. I have Sirius and don't listen to him but that doesn't mean others don't and shouldn't.

I'd rather the choice not to listen to people I don't care for than the alternative.
He can have all the oxygen he wants and he can say what ever he wants, i dont think anyone was saying otherwise. Its just an opinion that he's useless, and i agree with that opinion. Would rather watch paint dry, but hey plenty of people apparently enjoy him so all the power to them.

Obviously, the original OP misinterpreted what Howard Stern said, and was properly interpreted by Lena Dunham herself (as she went on Letterman & Stern's show to respond)

Now, rockslinger, what about "thin for Detroit"?
I guess Dunham:
is a complete waste of oxygen. A useless contributor to society.

From what I understand, she was born with a platinum spoon in her mouth.
I hear quite a few actors come from rich families and don't really need to work. Dana Delaney, Laura Linney, Daryl Hannah, etc. Laura said that coming from a rich family allows her to pick and choose her roles. BTW: Paris Hilton did not come from a rich family despite the Hilton name.

1/08: Stern's original comments. Various media outlets comment, with Perez leading the way.
1/13: Lena wins two golden globes.
1/14: Howard recants with a nice 180, claiming he was thrown under the bus.

Not sure what facts you wanna dispute. It is a pretty clear cut timeline and a stellar 180. It is just a radio show though.
He did not recant. I actually listened to both shows, both before the Golden Globe awards aired. The first time he talked about the show Girls he said he didn't like the show. He didn't like the fat chick (yes he said that) getting naked all the time. The next show he said he changed his mind, he watched more episodes and now he liked the show and he liked Lean.

When he spoke with Lena he did not take anything back that he said.

Those are facts.

That is mostly because her Grandfather believes he can foresee even worse "car wreaks" in the future.

Laura Linney, is très chic, although she didn't have much money growing up - (her parents were divorced when she was young) (and she did swallow the Hollywood "Hope and Change" Koolaid back in 2009).

I've been listening to Howard for years, although I've lost interest since he befriended Bon Jovi. Howard used to brutally tear him up at one time. Rather than give another stale opinion, here's some classic Stern for you all.

Well, sort of. It's arguable whether he took anything back or not. He totally backpedaled and tried to the point of being obvious to avoid calling her "fat" although eventually it became unavoidable (since she brought it up).

Did he honestly have a change in heart? Maybe. Or maybe he got scared about pissing off Perez Hilton (who was mad about his comments) and was afraid of getting in a pissing match with someone who may well have dirt on his own private life. Like whether or not Stern is really bald and wearing a wig. Or whether he's cheated on Beth or his ex-wife. Or countless other things that most people are scared to bring up around Stern (except in a joking manner) but Perez may have no problem engaging in open warfare with him.

I'm 50/50 on either but it is REALLY strange the complete 180 he did, but particularly the backpedaling he did about her being fat. Especially when confronted by her on it. Normally he's more honest about a person being fat but this time he completely tried to downplay/avoid what he said earlier. Noticeably so.

Regardless of all that, the show has really taken a fall over the past few years and is but a shadow of its former self. Saying Stern is "mailing it in" wouldn't be much of an exaggeration.
