Didn't hear that, but if true, good move.

This should be in sports section, probably moved soon.

Long overdue - good riddance !!! 4 years without making the playoffs is inexcusable. The Maple Leafs under Brian Burke were simply going nowhere.

Just heard that MLSE has fired BURKE!!! Any more info????????????
But he is still with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Get him out of the country.

Hey, MLSE. STOP! trading our young players (current, prospects) for old farts, wounded or soon to retire or should have retired players.

Clean House! Everyone from Coaches, All Assistant Coaches, and up. This includes the chairman of the board Larry Tanenbaum.

They should and follow MLSE values and vision: http://www.theaircanadacentre.com/assets/default/vision_values120610.gif

One of the strong rumours was he refused to agree to Jake Gardiner/Nazem Kadri for Roberto Luongo, and the board wanted him to.

How would the board know this is in the works and how would the board as a collective group come to the conclusion that they would want this trade.
Who on the board would be that involved with the hockey team.
I could understand if it was a single owner, thinking he knows everything, sticking his nose in, but this doesn't make sense.

Sounds like the Jerry Jones school of ownership except JJ knows more about football than Bell/Rogers knows about hockey.

Roberto Luongo is so overrated.
Jake Gardiner is a potential future superstar.
Nazem Kadri is a former potential future superstar.

Rumour has it (As heard on the radio) that the firing was to open the route to Luongo.

The leafts have a habit of getting big name goalies on the tail end of their career. IF RL has any interest in coming to the Leafs I think that's a sign of how bad his skills are.

I mean if I'm a good goalie with options of places to go (i.e. contenders) why would I take a similar pay cheque to be with the Leats?!???? Unless he thinks he has several years left and believes there will be improvement to the team.

The leafs are a sub par team with little trade value, not much by way of young talent and only so much cap space. How good can they get in one year?

Granted maybe with a good goalie they might sneak into 8th spot and lose in the first round.

pretty bad time to fire him... a week before the season starts. Looks like Bell/Rogers are going to be meddling owners like Harold Ballard was. Luongo is over rated and Burke was right: the meddling owners were wrong. When Roberto chokes this year playing with a bunch of rookies, it's gonna get ugly in Leafland. I don't like Burke, but this is really bad timing and sends the wrong message about this new ownership regime.....oh well, only 4 more years and we hit 50 since the last cup! FIFTY YEARS OF FUTILITY!

Both sides are wrong.

Burke has built a team that doesn't seem to improve.

Bell/Rogers is wrong in thinking Loungo is the answer.
