In March 2009, the British actress Natasha Richardson took a simple fall on the ski slope and died as a result. People said she would have lived if she wore a helmet. Two people (a 16 year and a 48 year old male) have already died on the ski slopes this Winter.

We were thinking of enrolling my niece in ski school but were told that helmets are mandatory and her hockey helmet was not acceptable. When we take her skating (Nathan Philips Square on New Year's Eve for example) we just slap the hockey helmet on her head and push her on the ice.

The other thing I can't understand is why bike helmets are not mandatory in the Province?

Bike helmets are mandatory for kids in Ontario but but for adults.

Ok, I am now thoroughly confused. I took my little 8 year old niece to buy her a hockey helmet. I asked the store if she could also wear this same helmet for skiing and biking and was told NO. I would have to buy 3 DIFFERENT HELMETS! Isn't a helmet a helmet a helmet?

I recall years ago a tag line for Bell motorcycle helmets - If you have a $10 dollar head, buy a $10 helmet.

I hear you but I don't think Bell is completely impartial on the need for helmets and why you should spend more money rather than less.

I know this is all the case for motorcycle helmets as even a small drop can dramatically reduce the protection it provides. This is why you don't see people sitting their helmets on the bike seats anymore - that small drop could cost you several hundred bucks.

And why most stores that sell motorcycle helmets have signs " You drop it You Bought it"!

I agree falling when properly equipped can actually be kinda fun! I want to get a go-pro camera for the top of my helmet this year ... and the clips to attach to handlebars, kayak, etc. There were some awesome shots of us flyin around on my white water rafting trip. If we have to wear a helmet may as well attach a camera to it and film all the fun

Can I wear it next time I come see you?

True, you can buy a very inexpensive helmet but it's your head, buy the best. It will cost you more but if you ever have a big impact, you'll be thankful you chose the best. I think I paid $700 for my motorcycle helmet.

Hey Jess, listen to pointz and buy the GOPRO 3 Black Edition when it's back in stock. The Veho is a child's toy by comparison.
