Not surprised.
Google's business model is heavily dependent on advertising. Sure, they'd like it better if you were on Android where they can own your experience. But they're okay with you being on iOS and funnelling your life through their apps.
I wouldn't be surprised. One can only imagine how many Androids sold are on prepaid just being used for voice and text.
It's sensible for Google and sensible for apple users and therefore Apple. Maps is a great example - if there's better apps out there, people will want it or move to where they can get it.
Must be - I'm paying less for my Android apps than I did for the same Apple apps. Since Apple users pay more for less, I guess we should continue to hope Apple generates lots of money for Google.
Interesting that the article slams Apple apps in favour for the more popular Google apps - it isn't much of a surprise that the better O/S came from the best software provider in Apple's own devices. Maybe Google will write a future version of iOS that is more efficient and popular than Apple's (and then Apple will sue them for patent infringement).
I think you missed the point.
Google's revenue comes from ads - they do very poorly on monatizing apps (or HW for that matter), iOS users tend to have higher utilization rates than Android users (many of those Android phones are cheap phones sold without data plans):

If you make your money from ads the platform that presents ads as part of a web interaction is going to be the money maker, that's iOS.....
