Fark, I hate the time difference. I was going to watch the game today, but the radio alarm goes off and the lead story is 'Canada wins'. I hate watching games that I know the result of.
Gotta take precautions! I go into "cave mode" to avoid anything that might tip me off to the results.

Canada is improving with every game, which is always the game plan. They looked HORRIBLE against the Finns, looked a lot better against the Swedes, and for the most part looked very good (with glimpses of greatness) against the Germans. Subban also looked much more solid than in his debut showing against the Finns.

I watched the Slovakia-Russia game yesterday and man was it a good one. Slovakia kept hanging around and I said all they need is a good bounce and lo and behold next thing you know it's 2-2 and going into OT. Slovakia was seconds away from a shoot out (where anything can happen) when a slapshot from above the circle ended it. Prior to that the Russians were in panic mode as their grand debut almost went down in flames. They kept trying to play solo against the Slovaks and not pass the puck and kept getting shut down. The Russians will need to learn from this if they want to win gold.

The result of the Slovakia-Russia game has significant repercussions as it means the Russians only got 2 points for an OT win (good for Canada) and Slovakia gets 1 point (which could be crucial for avoiding relegation).

GO CANADA GO!!!

It was only Germany but yes they did look really good. Except for those couple of defensive brain farts. The first line is getting hot and gelling together well it seems. As KE said its about getting better as time goes on so nice to have Americans and Russia at the end of the round robin. Yesterday I didnt turn on the tv or radio and didnt talk to anyone until noon lol. It was hard but thank god for porn. I made it til noon and watched the whole game without knowing. I was going to watch the Russia/Slovakia game live but thought the commentators might talk about the Canada game. Are they told not to at all or did they mention the score?

BULLSHIT call on the Camara hit. He gets 5 mins and game misconduct and maybe a suspension on an amazingly hard clean hit. Ref didnt even call a penalty at first. Then after discussing it and the stretcher comes out they call it. Fuck that. The Slovak had his head down playing the puck. Deal with it! Canada needs to pick up its game though.

Canada better show some discipline otherwise they won't have a team left. These refs are not as good as North American refs and since it's in Russia the Euro refs tend to favor Europeans.

Wow ... that was one scary hit when viewed on the replay. Dude was oblivious to the fact he was about to get smoked. I think it was a charge and unfortunately the result of the play (an apparent concussion) led to the 5 minute major.

+1 100%

That was a clean hit and the call was total bullshit.
You know why there was no call at first, because there was no penalty.
Only because the guy got hurt, they called it.
Watch the replay, Camara did not charge. He was in total cruise mode and the hit itself was not vicious.
If the guy wasn't totally unprepared, it wouldn't have turned anywhere near that bad.
I feel for the Slovakian player, but that was a bad call. Watch the replay.

Yeah, I've heard them slip and/or they've shown highlights of the Canada results. But there was also one game where they went out of their way to warn the viewers that they were about to talk about the Canada results. So better to be safe than sorry and PVR it.

My thoughts on the two 5-minute majors from today's game against Slovakia...

The first one was a legit penalty (hit to the head) and based upon previous IIHF rulings I fully expect a 1 or 2 game suspension. I suspect it will only be 1 because now we're into meaningful games and the other player was not injured.

The second hit was a legit body check and should not have been called. HOWEVER, this is international hockey where the rule of the game seems to be that if you hurt another player then you're going to get penalized and likely suspended. This was patently obvious today when the refs weren't going to call anything until they saw how badly hurt the Slovak player was (apparently his visor cut his face and that's where the blood came from; I thought he was bleeding from the eye and had suffered a major brain injury--luckily not).

Canada has to learn to adjust to the international rules. In short, the IIHF are a bunch of puritan pussies and if you hurt someone you're going to get dinged HARD. Love it or hate it but it's house rules and in this tournament the IIHF is the house.

Id rather lose than change how Canadians play. Im not talking dirty hockey but the likes of the Camara hit should not be changed. It was not a charge and the Slovak had his head down from when the puck was behind the net until he turned around and got crushed. Not happy he was hurt but keep your head up boys. It goes both ways

On a much more important note, has anyone else noticed the smokin' hot cheerleader on the lower right side of the screen? She's always in the same place in the stands and I've seen her in all the Russian games. Not the ones in the "cheerleader section" at the end of the ice (those girls are nothing special) but up in the stands. She's brunette, slim, tan, with long hair and she was wearing a backless outfit (!!) the other day. Those Russians really know how to show off the goods!

Smokin' hot!!!

What a great goaltending duel today! Funny how it was the Americans taking the aggressor penalties as opposed to the Canadians. Hopefully both sides learned a lesson from that result as it seems like charging and hits to the head will be called by the book. Can't wait for Canada/Russia!

It got aggressive at the end because the US was getting frustrated. Yeah, both goalies played great and both can win the gold. The Russia game is played in the morning, finally a better time!

I thought the Americans self-destructed at the end (and even then they still got close to tying it up). I think the Canadians did a better job of keeping it together at the end (probably from their bad experiences to date) but the last minute penalty by Nugent-Hopkins was reckless.
