There are multiple factors for this. Its considered a death zone up there... Often times these bodies have fallen off the Everest cliffs into areas where its dangerous and almost for anyone to reach, let along trying to haul back a dead body. Take into other factors like lack of oxygen in that altitude and altitude sickness most people experience there, you`d have to worry about making it back to the base yourself. People who go there to climb just lose weight and become weak due to the conditions there. When teams set out for the Everest summit, they have to pack very light and almost always carry only a single tank of oxygen for themselves. A single tank of oxygen eventually runs out so they have only a few hours to make it to the summit of Everest and get back. Being the highest point in the world, weather conditions can change in a matter of minutes. It could go from bright and sunny to pitch black that you can`t even see your own hands in front of you. As a result, people climbing the Everest always set out for the summit before dawn and time it so they`re back before the sun sets. Lastly, due to the seasons, Mt. Everest isn`t open for climbing throughout the year. I believe every year, there is only a period of two weeks or so when the weather conditions are suitable for climbing. There are literally hundreds of people each year from all over the world who attempt to climb it in during that time so everyday the path up Mt. Everest is like a conveyor line. The face of the mountain is dangerous that you need to use safety lines all the way to the summit. Due to this and how crowded it is, its impossible for one to overtake another.
You must`ve heard about the Canadian woman and a few other people who died while trying to climb Everest this past summer. There was a thread in here. Basically, what contributed to her death was that it was very crowded that day. She left for the summit fairly late in the morning too. Sadly her oxygen started to run out, and she started passing out, eventually dropping to her knees. She tried begging for oxygen but no one could help her. Once you drop up there, it is very likely that one will die there. Most are too weak, don`t have enough oxygen and time to stop and try to save someone. This woman trained out here in Toronto each day for months before going to climb too - walking 50 kms or so each day while carrying a 100lbs backpack. (which by our standards would be exteremely fit lady)
