Alrighty I know sp's would like their possible clients to have unblocked numbers when calling. If I'm calling an sp I'm familiar with no problem. I understand they are looking at it from a safety point of view. However sometimes I perrfer to block my number if calling someone I have never seen before. If i don't leave some sort of message with contact info to get back to me, I don't want an sp calling me up or texting me. I recently called an sp that loked new in town. they said they wouldn't accept blocked callers. I called with my number unblocked, and got no answer. Since than they have phoned me back once and texted me a half a dozen times trying to set up an appt. This could be very bad if the wrong person checks the messages on my end. Their add is now gone and when I try to call them back to ask them to stop it goes to voice mail with a male speaking and a male name.WTF? This isn't the first SP that has called or texted me back after a missed call. Sometimes blocking numbers is also for the clients safety. How do we know were not dealing with LE or a journalist from CTV doing a documentary. I'm just finding this annoying.

You can be pretty darn sure this isn't the case. This is Canada, police stings involving Johns just aren't really something that happens. That's not to say it's never happened before, but every week someone one on either of these boards is posting 'warnings' about cop cars being present in parking lots of hotels, and other perceived police stings. None of these ever transpire to become an actual police sting, not to mention the fact that there are not going to be cops blatantly parked in front of a hotel trying to catch Johns. Two nights ago, in fact, a customer arrived at my hotel worried about a cop car in the parking lot, and I just laughed - it's something to think about once a while but it's not a primary concern for me.
As for a journalist? Honestly, I think this is one of those things that could theoretically happen but I doubt it actually does too often. I've been in this biz for a while and I've never personally spoken to a journalist, at least not to my knowledge.
I think your other reasons for wanting to protect your identity are legit. You have had bad experiences with having SPs know your contact info, and compromising your discretion. That is definitely an issue and I'm surprised that a lot of SPs don't know better. On our side of things, there are some pretty serious issues associated with blocked callers. I've had masked numbers calling me in the middle of the night to tell me they are going to come rape me (??) and I have know way of ascertaining their identity. That is scary. I don't pick up 90% of blocked calls, but once in a while, I get genuinely curious about the caller's reason for blocking their number, and will answer just to see what they're like. A lot of the time, it's people like you, who mean no harm but are worried (understandably) for themselves. After I tell them I don't take blocked calls, they always apologize and seemed to be well intentioned.
Here's where everything kind of shakes out for me. In the end, I don't see answering blocked calls as being worth it, because in the event that the person verbally assaults or threaten me, I have no way of holding them accountable, and this is unsettling. Therefore, while it's unfortunate that many well-intentioned customers are calling from blocked numbers, they aren't going to make the cut because there are enough people calling me who display their phone number, and this generates enough business for me.
Tl;dr: Douchebags ruin it for everyone.

What's even worse than getting an unexpected callback from an sp...is getting a text with their price and service list! For those of us on phones that can be monitored by the employer,that ain't good. Now I'm sure someone will tell me to get a hobby phone...but that would be worse to get caught with by an SO.
If you cant hide a burner from a SO, how on earth are you going to know when to turn away from a LE sting or bad situation? Better stay home and jerk it in the spank tank if you are that dumb rather than end up on CTV. It kills me how much cash one can shell out to hobby but scrimp when it comes to their own preservation.
