Sorry forgot to mention that the reason I was looking for a quiet place was because I have a date. We want to be able to talk to each other.

Ahh. Ok - definitely Milestones or Baton Rouge. Make sure to ask for booth seats!

Spirithouse. Portland and Adelaide. Great drinks, good food, and if the date goes bad FYEO is right around the corner. Or if the date goes amazing, FYEO is right around the corner.

Bar Chef Queen Street between Spadina and Bathurst
+1 another vote for Barchef.
Try the molecular martini. Expensive but your date will be impressed.
Try to keep your eyes off the super hot blond cocktail waitress; your date will not be impressed. :)

References to Milestones would I presume be to the one overlooking Dundas Square ("Milestones on Four", if I recall correctly).

You should also be able to find a quiet corner at one of The Keg restaurants. Or walk along King west until you find something that excites you.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I ended up at Kultura near St. Lawrence Market. It was pretty much perfect for that night. Quiet. Great atmosphere. Read some nice reviews of the place. No chemistry with the date though. I guess there's always the hobby lol.
