More trolling? It would help if you told what it was and especially why you believe in it.
Myers Briggs Type Indicator is the the most popular personality instrument in the world today. You can do mini versions on the web...but you can also pay and do it, and get a better interpretive report. The problem is that many people misread their results. And they use it as gospel, when the clarity of one's preference is extremely important
So you're unfamiliar with, in the words of Plan B, "the most popular personality instrument in the world today," and I'm the one who's trolling? Interesting.... I peg you as an ISTP.
The MBTI is an amazing platform to learn about oneself. Often we are in the wrong environments at work, or in a messed up relationship, and when we look at our MBTI preferences, we say "Wow, now I understand why this is like that". We can work in our non-dominant preference areas, but it may be a little like always using your left hand if you are right handed..Not easy and awkward.
Not unfamiliar at all, but some on here might be, so that's why the suggestion. The really important part of my post was the query, why you're a believer, which you didn't answer. I had it done in the early 70's as part of an application for employment. As far as your guess, don't give up your day job. I hope you don't need to make a living using it.

Reads like the daily horoscope, is simplistic, general, and vague, masquerading as parsimonious, suffers from poor reliability and self-report bias.

Okay, I'll bite.
I"m a believer because, for me, it has worked. It's helped me understand how to deal with my employees, my superiors, and others. Doesn't hurt in my personal life, either.
This is true, but I don't think the majority of applicants are sophisticated enough to understand, yet alone manipulate, these results.
Having said that, the effectiveness of MBTI as a screening tool may be overstated, and the benefits of self-analysis are probably many times greater than that.

Also, the more complex versions of it do show more: such as some E's are actually I's functioning as E's.
Not everyone has been exposed to this type of testing. Not everyone works in an environment where this type of testing is used.
Why not cut the guy some slack.
I have little doubt that if I took it today, the result would, different as I'm different tha i was 30 years ago. it's a snap show of you a person on that day and an aid, nothing more. How much of aid, who knows. One different answer in the series of questions can change those that are on the cusp of the different categories, yet it only one answer.

Yet you were again wrong as i am familiar with the test, but figure not many other members would be. If I was the only around these halls that feel you troll, you might have a point, but somehow I think I'm not alone.
It's tool, but some think it the answer. Remember ink blots?Pop Psychology for the corporate crowed. Fun and great for launching discussions, but designed so everyone feels ok about themselves when they are all done. IMHO
