they won't be of help, nor will the FBI... You're pretty much toast in getting your files back unless you pay the hackers or FBI catches these people who are likely living somewhere in China or asia xDDD
Russia.

And no, I didn't pay anyone a dime and from what I read, even if you do, they don't remove the virus.

Just don't go on xhamster anymore till they get their shit sorted out.

I have picked up some very agressive virus despite McAffey AV software fully up to date.

I was reading the thread on TERB about fleshlights and had never seen one so I googled fleshlight and clicked on an xhamster website.

About 30 seconds into the video this screen comes up saying its the police and I had been caught promoting terrorism, or surfing porn etc

Anyway it wants me to go to Esso and buy kcash or. Sone other money voucher and put in the number or else it will lock my computer.

There is a coat of arms for the Canadian pacific police service.

I

It seems to activate as soon as it gets a wireless signal. Any wireless signal. It wants $ 100.00 orelse.

I deleted my cache and ran a full scan with MacAffey and no viruses were detect

Any ideas?

If I shut the radio off the thing does not fire up
So what is it actually doing? I received a few of those messages on my last computer. I ignored it like those "work from home" ads. Or the government grant ones.... Or your a winner! Lol, but I did end up having problems with the computer and the motherboard ended up crapping out about a month after the issue started.

disconnect your network cable and throw your computer out the window! LOL

really... though

disconnect your network cable or disconnect your wireless connection
- go to c:\programdata and delete lsass.exe -----> oh nevermind! LOL looks like this thing likes to hide in different files, i just found out someone had to remove svchost.exe from the users folder
- press the windows key + r and type msconfig
- go to Startup and remove anything that has lsass from your start up
- do a virus scan and clean out whatever it finds.

I just cleaned this virus an hour ago off someone's laptop. if all else fails REFORMAT AND REINSTALL... good luck

otherwise gimme 50 bucks and i'll remove it for you hehe

This type of malware could be picked up on any site.
A friend's PC got locked and hijacked responding to ads on ebay.
My sister got something similar answering an ad to buy something on CL and she was using McAfee.

Will all the malware floating around on the Internets Al Gore invented, it could happen anywhere now.....:eyebrows:

Here is the best and most bullet proof solution

Take out your old harddrive and drive a stake through its heart and then toss it into Lake Ontario. Buy a new harddrive and re-install your operating system.

Guys

My computer is back in business. 30 bucks later - which the company will pay for (sorry Simon).

I just wish that the AV software that I have would have prevented this.

Lesson to me.

[QUOTE/QresraOddSox;4226431]Tell me that again after you have to reformat your Windoze and lose everything...[/QUOTE]

I restack couple times a year....if you don't back up at lest that often you are asking for trouble. Wife's Mac got wiped about 7 months ago. Virus. It happens. Might not be as much...but when it happens its worse

Buy the paid version of Malwarebytes so you can get the realtime version. It is used in addition to your antivirus software. Been using Malwarebytes full version and Microsoft Security Essentials for 2 years and have not been hit since.

I have experimented with Linux and found that there are some software such as Media Player Classic and StudioTax that will not run on Linux but will on Windows.
I felt exactly the same when first trying out Linux and this is why I recommend a dual boot system when first trying out Linux.
Back then Windows was all I ever used/knew and there were some Windows programs I didn't want to give up. With a dual boot you don't lose a thing. You have 2 completely functional OSs. As you use and become familar with Linux, you always have Windows to go back to if you want to use a fav program or app you feel you can't live without. BTW Linux has a plethora of fine Media Players and all the popular Tax software programs run on Linux.

Now ~6 years later I can do anything and everything needed on Linux and don't need M$ for anything anymore.
It's nice being FREE.....
