I was aware of the NFC capability and controversy when Apples newest iPhone didn't have this ability but I thought the use was a little ways off. I was surprised to learn that you can purchase NFC tags ( ~ $2-$2.50 each) and use them automatically program your Android phone to do custom set-ups and tasks.
I bought Samsung NFC tags (5 for $13) but as shown on the video link below, you can buy various NFC tags which will work. You can stick these tags in locations that you commonly do different tasks and simply touch the phone to immediately program it. A common use is applying them in your car to set up Drive mode, GPS on, Maps on, max screen brightness, etc. by touching the tag. My immediate thought was putting one on my android tablet so that I can touch my phone and toggle the tethering feature on and off.
