Just a fyi to people, this guy is actually quite good. I'm gonna hit him up for my regular travel stuff as well. Key point is that he must have access to the premium rewards class level bookings for places.. ie. late checkout.. example
Delta = $97 + tax (guaranteed 8am check in & 6pm following night checkout)
If you travel, you know this is a big fucking deal.
The price he quoted was below what I`d normally have had to pay doing a bid with priceline. Which is well below any pricing on hotels.com and all the hotel booking sites...
I don`t drink coffee.. so this is an unbiased review.
It seems somehow, likely because he can operate at lower margins than the booking sites.. but he`s able to provide good prices.. and very key.. late checkout

Hey CH I travel a bit for work and I find that Ottawa does seem to ramp up in the fall.... Lots and lots of government travel happens Sept-Nov it seems. With Ottawa being HQ for all (most) departments, means lots of folks coming to town during the week.
Personally when travelling non work related i have used Hotwire.com with much success. You don't find out what hotel you are at until you pay, but you can choose neighbourhood, amenities and star rating....haven't had any unpleasant surprises.....yet......

@Capital hunter. With copycraigs, you do get to pick. He sent me a number of options and their respective prices. btw, you can just leave your key in your room. you don't need to actually check out. no interaction needed.
@Funjay, actually you've been missing out, using betterbidding.com you can tell what hotels you're looking at with Hotwire.com =D. I've used it when Priceline nameyourprice bidding wasn't working out for me.

As for leaving the key in your room. That's been a common practice for at least a decade I know of. They even tell you that at the front desk. You can also check out via the tv at some hotels. With regards to your concern over being billed for the second day. The system assumes you're leaving after your booked stay, and will have cleaning up and reassign your room to the next guest after base check out time, "room cleaned" status is sent in via a phone code housekeeping taps into the phone. So the system now knows room 1001 is now clean and ready to be resold.
If they walk in, find all your gear in the room at 12. They assume you're still staying, and will contact you. if they don't hear from you by say 2 or something and housekeeping still finds stuff in your room. they just bill you for day 2. They don't toss your stuff out or anything.
I remeber the hotel beside the Lone Star on St Laurant had 1/2 day rates , this was about a year or so ago , I think it was around $80 at the time.
Most hotels have day rates. But you need to ask. They dont advertise them. There are lots of legit reasons why you may only want a room for hours; travelling and need some shuteye, in town conducting job ibterviews, travelling salesperson who needs a quiet place to prep for a big pitch at a dinner mtg later.....
this is interesting. though if the day rate is that high.. might as well book the full night lol. but good option. I wonder if hotel guy can get us day rates.

When booking inquire about a day rate, many hotels offer them but they do not promote them. Another option, when checking in casually mention there's a chance you may not be staying the night due to whatever reason, finally you could just come back the next morning and check out. Or you could stay at the hotel and make a mini staycation of it all. Quite Simple really.
That's odd. I can't remember the last time I actually checked out of a hotel. I've really never heard of having to do that. I would think that in most (if not all) of the major hotel chains, you would never have to physically check out...that's why they want your credit card up front.
yea. no point in checking out at desk. sometimes depending on the hotel. i'll check out via tv. but that's just cuz i'm bored and wifey is taking ages to makeup it up.

It is strongly recommended that do not leave the key card type key at the hotel for ID theft purposes as the strip has info on it. Take them with you and/or destroy them.

Agree with Hector17. In all my travels, I never check out at the desk. I've heard some chains and probably independents frown on this because they want to know when you have left and perhaps for incidentals but if you just leave with you baggage, there's nothing they can (or will) do. Sometimes there's a key-drop box too. Hilton and Marriott will slip the bill under your door around 4am and tell you not to check-out unless there's something wrong with the bill.
If anyone gives you a hassle after the fact, just say there was a line-up when you checked-out and you were in a rush so you threw the key on the desk.
Hector17, I'd never heard that the keys have personal information on it. I thought it was just the reservation & check-in information required to match the key to a room and night. Do you have firsthand information of this?
