hey guys, so my firm lost a major client months ago and have been laying off people. I've been out of work for two months and need to find something to do as I'm getting bored the fuck out here. I thought of trying something outside my profession temporarily so I could take a break from my field. Anyone know places hiring, agencies etc in and around the Markham region preferably (GTA will be fine too)? I'm educated, skilled with my hands, computers, tools, problem solver and hard working, sure to make anyone pleased xD.. I'd prefer doing something in a different field before I start looking in my own field. would appreciate any leads.. thanks.

I recommend that you stay within your field, and get the fuck back to work asap. You don't want your resume to get stale.

I do recommend going on job boards and using recruiters, but this should comprise no more than 10-15% of your effort.

What you need to do is make a target list of 10 to 20 employers you are interested in, and then see to it that you network your way to as many hiring managers as possible. Not HR. It is hiring managers who make hiring decisions. If you speak with enough of these guys, and sell yourself, you will be on the path to employment.

And no more SP or MPA until you get a job.

In a house somewhere
What's your age? How long were you working there, and did you get a severance? If so, try to spread it out over the period you received it for. And try to get something in the meantime. The reason I asked your age is, if you can't get back into your old profession then maybe try a new one????

i'm in my mid 30's :) I just want to work elsewhere for a few months as my profession can get pretty stressful with deadlines and responsibilities. It would be a good jolt for me working elsewhere to realize the benefits (or not) of working in my profession. Mind you, I don't plan to switch fields, unless we're talking like millions in increased wage ofcourse xD

Anyone? I'm sure some of you might need an extra worker. lol

Kahlua.. i haven't been hobbying for over a yr and half now. Found other means to get pussy for free ;)

Any rough ideas about what different fields you are interested in? And what compensation range are you looking for?

You've got to go where the opportunities are and unfortunately, Ontario is a have not Province. Which means Edmonton, Saskatchewan, or maybe Newfoundland. I hate to say it but it's true. I moved here 26 years ago because this was where the jobs were. That's not the case any longer. I feel sorry for this generation. You've been thrown under the bus.

This is an escort review board. Unless you like sucking dick it is probably the wrong place to look for work.

And still paying your student loans? I'm curious, how many graduate degrees do you have? Or did you go for one of those artsy fartsy out of province university degrees?
3 xP Sheridan for Illustration, then Psychology, followed by engineering at uni :p Paid off the first two.

Wow, all over the map! And now you're looking for something different again?
nah.. i plan to stick with the last one. Just figured I could try earning some pocket money doing something else as a temporary job before I'm recharged to go back to it again. I need to do something to make me realize how fortunate I am to do something that challenges me, get paid fairly well etc. I remember having to work during highschool at heavy labour jobs where ego driven managers bossed you around, got paid crap even though it was the toughest job you had to do.

Given that you are not picky and sound like you want to try something that will make you appreciate the last post you had, what do you think about just picking a low-level job from the local newspaper/ads? If it turns out to be something you hate, it may provide the motivation for getting back to your last field. If not, hey, you just found something else interesting to do.
