Is there any good erotic fiction out there?

Is anyone else interested in erotic fiction? I recently read a portion of 50 shades of Grey, which is incredibly popular right now. Though I liked it conceptually, other things about it didn’t appeal.
Granted, I was mostly zooming through the romantic stuff and getting to the sex scenes, and I didn’t finish the book which may invalidate my dislike a touch.

Erotic Fiction must be more than watery soft porn for romance readers, I’d like to find and/or write this.

In the past I read a bit of the sleeping beauty series, which was a bit out there but a fun and sexy read. I think I could write better, but everyone thinks that.

Any other readers, writers or erotic fiction recommendations?

The first erotic book that I read as a kid was Lady Chatterly's lover. It was trailblazing back in the day somewhat like Linda Lovelace and Deep Throat opening up society to a wider view of porn.

I did look at literotica.com for short stories. There are a few gems, but I found it too time consuming to wade through reams of turgid nonsense.

I have a feeling that Shades of Grey will be a forerunner to something much better along these lines.

I don't know much about it but one day while surfing the web I came across an Internet message board similar go this one where members submit stories/poems etc to be read and reviewed by other members.

The idea kind of appealed to me but then I never followed through. Can't recall the name of the board now.

One of my favorite authors is Charles Bukowski. I would not describe his work as erotic fiction but he certainly has some coarse, bawdy stories written about characters who are down on their luck and living on the wrong side of the tracks. He always makes for an interesting read.

Bukowski sounds a bit like Tom Robbins, Ill have to check it out. I'm going to take a try at writing a short story of my own. If its any good ill post it!

I've started 50 Shades of Grey.

I know that some women hate it for its dark side.

I think it's a way for women to explosre their dark side in a benign way.

However, I roll my eyes when the guy has to be young, good-looking and unimagineably rich. In reaity, the only young ones that got that rich were Bill Gates and the FB founder, but they aren't Christian Grey lol.

But I like the female perspective aspects of the novel.

How is Sleeping Beauty Series erotic. Obviously, you're not talking about Disney Dahlia.

Yes...sort of. The character Mickey Rourke played was "Henry Chinaski" who was a fictional character created by Bukowski. Chinaski was sort of like Bukowski's self-portrait.

I checked out "Fifty Shades of Grey" just to see what all the hype was about. To paraphrase another reviewer it read "like a 13 year old girl" was writing it. It really was crap. The story line, the characters, the dialog was all extremely poor. Just my humble opinion of course.

If you want to read some really good erotica, besides the classics like "The Story of O" and "The Pearl", try out Creamer's "Bean Counter" series on Literotica, or "Cock of Ages" which is a great SF story by itself, and "Geek's Revenge" all of which are quallity erotica. For those of you who enjoy a lesbian story line try Colleen Thomas' "Riding for the Brand". which is also on Literotica.

I agree with Celticman that while they have thousands of storys archived on Literotica, a lot of them are crap. You do have to be kind of selective. I find that if you don't get interested in the first three paragraphs then move on to another story.

Ive also had the same experience as many when reading literotica, (new term for me), where it did feel like a 13 year old stuck in a twilight fantasy. At the same time, some stories, while the sex scenes are written well, lack any other form of content or depth. It will be neat to see some of these recommendations and see if there is some middle ground.

I personally liked the darker side of 50 shades, as a moderate appreciator of bdsm, (can be thrilling!), but the cheesy content made my toes curl in the wrong way!

I feel there is some good and very hot reading coming in my future

The Cradle of Erotica--a Study of Afro-Asian Sexual Expression is a great non-fiction book which goes into great detail about many past Afro-Asian-Mid East sex practices.

The Jewel in the Lotus and The Perfumed Garden are a couple similar novels along this line.
