For those that are in the know of a simple, basic clarity, this will come as no surprise. It'll just be: "Well, yeah. That's correct."
For those that continue to live in denial and willingly accept lies, deceit of gargantuan mendacity - much like any abusive, dysfunctional relationship - no amount of cold hard truth will alter conditional habits that continue to fester and rot beyond any sort of belief.
I guess you and ESPN will be labled a " Leaf Hater " them for writing it and you for posting it .
And yet it is perhaps the richest or most financially successful sports organization in the league if not the world.
I've been close to those who have had season's tickets since the 70s, and continue to this day, mostly for business entertainment purposes.
That's why it survives, because we sure aren't getting value for the product paid (as long as clients consider Leaf games a big attraction & want to go, businesses 'have no choice' but to continue their subscriptions).
We are sheep. It's troubling.

Why criticize Leaf fans for being loyal to their team....who still enjoy the sport of hockey even though the Leafs repeatedly break their hearts (that's life as a loyal fan in Toronto - heartbreak)...
There are fans who grew up loving the Maple Leafs since they were old enough to walk and talk....and you expect them to turn their backs on the Leafs and the game that they love because Dicks like you love to point out repeatedly (like a broken fucking record) that Leafs management is incompetent...And that Leaf fans are idiots because they keep supporting their team....
And sure there's some Leaf fans who have unrealistic expectations and yell "Stanley Cup Here We Come" every time the Leafs win a game (however rare that may be)...
But so what? Leave them alone and let them enjoy the game and their fantasy....

To clarify: this isn't a thread regarding the credibility of any certain sport. I didn't even start it. ESPN opened up this topic with a story that I'm sure you're familiar with by now.
So long as I have friends who are being deceived and lied to by a team they want to support (although the team gives them no reason to) I will never shut up about this topic. A deceitful organization that willing abuses of their fans via the sport/game needs to be called out fast, quick and as often as possible.
Scenario: if your boss at work tells you that the company will advance and that you have a raise coming, I buy that you will dedicate your time, patience and loyalty. However, if you know your boss is a lying 'douchebag', has no plans for advancing the company, is spending the company funds foolishly elsewhere and you KNOW all about this, that is not loyalty, Sir. There is a dedicated word for that and it applies perfectly.
Just because you've been socially conditioned to support a certain entity from childhood, it doesn't mean that you've lost your sense of reason and logic as an adult.
If you want this 'fantasy' to be enjoyed, then you can just pretend that this team has won their championship. If it's a 'fantasy' then isn't that just as good?
