Firstly, condolences to the victim's family.

My surprise is that these types of incidents hasn't actually happened more often. As a member of a long suffering persecuted Anglophone minority in Quebec, Richard Bain finally snapped and lashed out at his abusers.

if you live in Quebec, just learn French..
That is not good enough for the Francophones. You have to be "pure laine".

Bain was probably born in 1950. Think of that happened in Quebec during his lifetime. He was probably bullied by Francophones. Called "maldit Anglais". Couldn't get a civil service job even though he speaks French. Threats of separation. Not allowed to hang signs outside his business establishment in English.

This is a facet I never knew about in Canada.

Are English really persecuted and/or discriminated so badly in Quebec???
It hasn't been so bad for roughly the last decade, it certainly was unpleasant before, and may be so again.

You're a moron. If you actually believe this you should seek help.

And the French Canadians didn't get called "pepsi" and "frog" right?
All true, but if we wanting to keep living sixty or seventy years ago, rather than as things actually have been for those under the age of thirty. . . . . . .

Yes, but most of the separatist are old geezers like Pauline Marois, young people do not openly lash out at anglos. There are few separatist in Quebec these days. It still does happen once in a while but young people know that they need to speak English to open up opportunities for themselves outside the province.

I do not think so, There was hardly a stir with the PQ win, even with the killing at the PQ victory gathering. There were no big rallies of separatist at Marois victory speech. The Canadian dollar hardly flinched, it is business as usual.

There are actually two related issues here. One is separation. The other is the erosion of minority rights. The last 50 years in Quebec has seen a major erosion of minority rights. Anybody ever heard of the "language police"? Also, how many minorities does one see in the civil service? Far too few.
