For the third time in three years, adult movie studios have largely shut down production as a precautionary measure after a performer was diagnosed with a potentially fatal sexually transmitted disease but didn't immediately disclose it.

So let me get this straight....they have one guy out of probably a couple thousand or more with Syphilis and it's an "outbreak"

Your odds are no different in any pickup bar. Probably worse.

I'm not saying it's not worth doing something about, but lets keep it in perspective.

In the article it said he had a "doctored" report of cleanliness and had been working under that for a time. The shut down has been done by the porn industry itself until all parties are tested. The producers want to keep from having more controls put on them like the wearing of condoms in productions shot within LA city limits and a similar situation is on the ballot for this November for LA county.

I'd be open to it if they were all recently tested negative for HIV.

In the porn industry where BB sex is occuring they also test them for other STI's.

In fact this is similar to what i suggest for a SBBFS & have recently been doing with SP's.

Exactly. Hence the shutdown. Transmission rates are exponentially higher in the industry because of the nature of the interactions.

No, they have two CONFIRMED cases in the US plus who knows however many others have been infected but don't know it yet.

Also, patient zero appears to have been infected in Hungary and last time I checked there were 10 people infected over there. She traveled to the US to work, likely infected the guy, and who knows who else.

So yes, this is an outbreak that has spread across two continents.

You want an outbreak?

Read this:

The Public Health Agency of Canada said there were 1,394 cases of infectious syphilis reported in Canada in 2008, 444 of which were in Ontario.

That total number was roughly 12 times higher than the 115 cases reported for all of Canada in 1997.

In recent years, there have been noticeable outbreaks of syphilis in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto, affecting sex trade workers, their partners and clients, heterosexuals and men who have sex with men.

In Toronto, according to city statistics, there was a 1,000 per cent increase in the rate of new reported infectious syphilis cases between 2001 and 2008.

And 443 of which were Western students.

Quite the opposite:

"AIM Healthcare Foundation has stated that the rate of STDs in adult film actors in production companies that follow the AIM testing protocols is 2.4%, which they state is "considerably lower than the average for sexually active young people with similar demographics." "

Chances of getting HIV from bareback sexing someone who has just tested negative using NAT & AB tests & donated blood? About one in 5 million X 1900, or one in 9,500,000,000 (almost 10 billion).

Do guys who visit SP`s or pickup bar girls know if the lady has HIV or has ever even had a test for STI`s? No. Not as a rule.

I wonder how many of these "sex trade workers" infected with syphilis were low track drug addicted SP's.

Are statistics even kept or known about other types of SP's in Canada?

A little bit dramatic in this day and age to label syphillis as "potentially fatal" isn't it?
