this blogger claims a survey that says 31% whites are racits and 34% blacks are racist. Since we don't know the +/- of teh survey it would seem that it is close.

If you want to have that 3% edge have it.

If you consider that 80+% of blacks say they have expereince racism and there's only a 3% difference. Then I would argue that they are pretty tolerant.

The more I think about it if this is true. I'm shocked that there's only a 3% difference I mean think about this:
-if you lived in a country still dealing with racism
-you are the oppressed minority
-you are raised by people who remember really shitty times (racially)
-your are more likely to be poor
-you are more likely to be poorly educated
-you are more like to live in a bad neighbourhood
-you are more likely to experience racism

And when I say more likely I mean vs a white person

And the net result is only 3% that's remarkable.

BTW your economist article never said how much more racist latinos and blacks were vs whites. There was one sentance that just gave a percentage and said it was higher than other races. But higher could mean 1% or 20%. That difference is key as without it, it really doesn't mean much.

That survey you mentioned was measuring black racism against *whites*, rather than against other minorities. There are a few studies show that minorities are less racist towards whites than against one another. I was reading one the other day when I was googling this topic, I can probably find it again.

ps, I do have black friends, both male and female and some of them feel the same way I do!

CM, I don't choose to have black friends to make me appear less racist or to make myself feel less racist. I've known them from long before these encounters. When I talked to them about it they said they felt the same way about wanting to stay away from young black males. I have black clients and friends, none have ever made me feel threatened, it's the punks that are never up to any good who want to do harm to anyone but if they can find a 'whity' to do harm to they will.
