Grade 6 is around 11-12 years of age, they start learning sex ed before that, and 11-12 is when kids start to notice and pick up on sexuality. It is an appropriate age to teach acceptance towards all, including gays. The teacher may have come out in front of his class, but I'm sure he didn't go into detail about how he likes to give and receive a dick in the ass and how much he loves the reach around. I see nothing wrong with this. If any of these kids have gay parents, they all ready know what gay is. Its easier for kids to accept and understand something when they are exposed to it in a positive manner at a younger age.

NR-17 does not mean the contents are porographic, or obscene, it means that it MAY contain refrences to drugs(including alcohol and tobacco),sex,violence, bad language that parents MAY find offensive to their children. Not sure what this has to do with anything though.

I'd also like to point out again that kids learn sex ed, and drugs, at that age and earlier, and are taught about bullying(violence) at an ever younger age.

I think he meant more precisely that you are thinking in very fascistic terms.

Because kids start asking questions in Kindergarten. Some kids start copying their parents in Kindergrten ... looking for boyfriends and girlfriends...their parents think it's cute. Other kids are masturbators ... teachers usually find about these kids the hard way ... then the school has to make exceptions for these "kids" to leave the class when they feel the urge ... don't know if they're gay or straight ... they just need to relieve themselves...it is illegal to beat them into submission. Some kids in Grade 3 need bras...some are pregnant by family, neighbours or just the boys. Don't think kids are innocent ...they bring all the baggage of their parents...addictions, prejudices..religious and social to class...some don't have lunches...others no breakfast...the school provides...others are trying to learn to cope with mom or dad's new love interest...other kids no sleep because of the parents party last night. What do you do about the adopted kid that is being bullied and called gay because he lives with his daddy and daddy. It's not his fault a hetero couple didn't step forward to raise him. If kids like a teacher they will ask a teacher about their status in live ...single, married, ....looking. The purpose of the public system is to honestly and freely teach respect for human dignity and individuality. 12% of the population is black, 15% are left handed ...probably 10% or more are gay or bisexual...though many would prefer to be considered bachelors or spinsters to protect careers (unless they own the company). The teacher was only telling the truth and following the inclusiveness policy of the board and our society...just like Darwinism and a round earth...that's the way God made it. Though maybe not the way you'd like it.

Teaching tolerance for different sexual orientations is never wrong, no matter what age
Also, 11-12 years isn't that young anymore.
Now, if there was pornographic images shown than that crosses the line. But simply teaching the kids about other orientations and sexualities is not wrong. Personally, I would not come out to a roomful of kids if I were gay, but that doesn't make his choice wrong. He's not a pervert. Also I enjoy the fact that on one end your attacking this teacher because you somehow think kids are too young to think for themselves and are easily influenced, and yet you attack a Grade 6 kid for standing up for her beliefs.

That's about the age when kids start saying, "that's so gay" and calling out any hints of being different with other gay slurs. So it's the time when we should teach them to accept differences and not tolerate bullying. Tell them what a homosexual is and how some of them have done great things that had nothing to do with sex.

I'd also like to point out that any child in ontario can get a book from their elementary school library entitled, "I have two dads". Its not a porographic or obscene book but it explains what being gay is, in an approriate way for kids 10 and under. on a funny note, my step son brought this book home because he has "two daddies" his father and his step father LOL. But none the less he is 5 and learned that being gay means two people of the same sex that love eachother.
