You gotta be kidding?

A single line on a prostitution website without any more information and you are going to call your mother to tell her to stop taking calcium?

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY MEDICAL ADVICE OFFERED BY ROCKSLINGER!

Caltrate is a brand of calcium CITRATE that is more bio-available than cheaper forms of calcium carbonate.

Health Canada recommends 1000 - 1200 mg of calcium a day for women over fifty. Each Caltrate tab is about 240 mg IIRC.

However, having said that, she should indeed get a normal physical and if she is over 50 ask for a Bone Density Scan and an blood test for "osteocalcin" levels. Then her Doctor can give her proper advice.

I bet she does not take more than one tablet a day and that is highly unlikely to cause any arterial calcification.
you fool.. You should know better than that. I've read on a few places online that Calcium can be bad for women and their heart... Lately my mom has gotten sick from high blood pressure and she thinks its from eating too much salt but I'm suspecting it might be from the Calcium

I am no medical expert but I have reasons to be skeptical of calcium
supplements being one solution to Osteoporosis. Canada, US and various
European countries likely have the highest dietary intake of calcium. High
calcium food like milk, eggs and cheese are consumed in greater abundance
than other parts of the world. And yet it is in these affluent countries where
Osteoporosis seems to be more of a health problem than in countries like
China where daily consumption of milk is a luxury to a large part of the
population. Without any solid evidence that strengthening of bones in
the old age lies in consumption of calcium in excess of the normally
required quantity I would opt for a balanced diet.

I would consider a diet including (unfortified) soy milk, Chinese
cabbage (Bok Choy), black beans, broccoli, carrots, walnuts,
avocados, Sardines and pearl barley as the alternative to Caltrate
to fight bone loss.

Please note that Rockslinger has provided no links or evidence for any of his claims
Please note that he has 25k posts on TERB which indicates he has a lot of time on his hands.
Please note that having as much time on his hands as he appears to have means he is either a student, retired, or minimally employed.
Please note he rarely, if ever, posts reviews. There's many reasons why people don't post reviews, however with 25k posts and minimal reviews, evidence points to the fact that he does not have money to see women which rules out many possible vocations in the health care field, specifically being a doctor, and strongly suggests he is minimally employed.
Please note that about 90% of his posts are pure drivel and much of his opinions, "facts" and "advice" are easily shown to be at best uninformed, and at worst, criminally stupid. Most of these posts are ended with his trademark 'hee hee hee' which is something that six-year olds regard as beneath their intelligence, to say nothing of grown-ass men, which is what Rock claims to be

Now, add up all these points, and I think you can safely ignore this post just like all his other ones.
He is either a mental midget, or the world's best troll. Although even a troll has more of a life than Rock does.
While Rock is a shining example of the worst of TERB, please do not take any medical advice from any TERBite unless they can show you a medical degree. Consult your family doctor or a professional nutritionist.

The Rock sure knows how to get your gonads going. He posted his unsupported comments to creat dialogue and exchanges, obviously he succeeded.

Most of my calcium comes from supplements, citrate & carbonate. Without them my feet
would be hurting within a few days, in the absence of a suitable substitute.

As an over 50 male, I take around 1200 mg daily, plus vitamin D, but i am wondering if i
should take even more, as i've heard that coffee leaches out calcium. I drink several cups
of the caffeinated brew daily.

Also, in the last month my feet have been hurting when walking for 30 minutes or more,
which is unusual. I'm wondering if this is calcium related or due to something else like
old age wear & tear, the onset of arthritis, or ODing on salt.

Actually, just to clarify... Caltrate is a brand name for calcium CARBONATE, not citrate.

Salt is bad. Period. If you are like any of us, you probably eat out a bit and have prepared foods. That will exceed most people's salt intake limits right there! If you shake salt on everything as a habit, it is really bad. You can to some degree reduce this by drinking a lot of water but simply cutting out the salt shaking habit can do a lot
Thats because most people consume refined salt. Refined salt has been stripped of all its important trace minerals, and therefore causes a "mineral imbalance" in the body.

The solution is to buy healthy Sea salt at a health food store. That stuff you can consume 365 days of the year without raising your BP:

Rubbie, I use sea salt about 2 to 3 times a week. My blood pressure is fine.

So I dont know if I'm just lucky or if the sea salt is helping me, but either way I'm never buying refined salt again

There are some other factors at play as well. Southern China gets more sun than northern countries, hence more Vitamin D. Also, the typical Chinese (although this might be changing) is usually thin and very active especially in rural areas.

Interesting that you notice the connection. Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by low blood calcium. And other things like undiagnosed diabetes, so have both checked.
Will do. Muchas Gracious.

Our nervous system relies on calcium, magnesium, potassium and other minerals as electrical channels to transmit information and commands. Such function is the primary role of calcium in our life. If our diets do not provide sufficient calcium to our blood, our bodies will scavenge calcium stored in our bones, making the bones porous.

After a certain point in our lives, we get more and more unable to replenish our bones stockpile of calcium so ensuring adequate daily intake is more important as we age.

No. I am not a doctor. However I did stay at a Holiday Inn Select last night. Every time I sea salt I also sea pepper.

In the last 3 months i've often been eating a small or large bag of potato or corn chips daily to try to help with lubricating my BM's since i've occasionally had serious problems there, including very difficult & painful BM's & a surgical removal of flesh/my ass due to a blood clot about a year ago. BTW, I'm on a very low fat diet, e.g. drink low or no fat dairy milk or soymilk. Perhaps using regular metamucil would be a better option than the chips?

For a salty like additive to foods, i use Bragg's Aminos, which is a soya sauce looking & tasting liquid, but apparently with low or no sodium content, as its ingredients are only soybeans & water. Have you heard of this, or have any thoughts on it? These people, like you, are opposed to using salt.

My diet is low fat, low carb, high protein, so i assume the meats i eat have a lot of salt/sodium in
them, as fed to the animals, eg. chickens. Canned tunas & beans i eat also seem to be quite salty
to my taste, so no added salt is needed.

As for 1200 mg of calcium. Only way to know for sure is a blood test for osteocalcin but 1200 mg WITH VITAMIN D is probably good enough. However, the artery calcification and kidney stone risks go way down if you take it in small doses throughout the day. 500 mg is the upper limit. I take 240 mg calcium citrate with magnesium and Vitamin D at each meal. Plus I get good calcium from my diet also.

I'd check out the change / sore feet thing with your doctor. Kidney problems, heart problems and diabetes are causes of that. So are badly fitted shoes and being too heavy!

Good to hear you are looking out for your health!
The shoes haven't changed in the last year or so, nor the weight more than 5-10 lbs. I usually take 400citrate with coffee, OJ & calcium fortified soymilk. And 600 carbonate with meals, often with a multivitamin that has a bit of C + D etc. Average 2 meals a day. And 4 alcoholic drinks (bacardi breezer) every other day, including now (so i'm quite fucked up at the moment. Two a day is quite boring & does little for me}.
