I know someone who got their huge OSAP loans forgiven after they went on disability, so get cancer or chop your leg off and all is forgiven.

As the terb average posts/day thing on my profile helpfully calculates, in reality, about 10 posts a day. Including short ones like this that take a few seconds.

Not likely you can use such excuse if you have the ability to continue making
money to finance your addiction. I suggest you might need professional help to
treat your debt and addiction problems. There has to be some kind of free
counseling services for people like you. You will lose that addiction anyway
gradually as you get older. But you must start planning for your retirement
long before your flesh becomes too weak to hobby. Look for help to enable you
to quite the hobby and pay back you loan. Or you may end up hiding away in Europe.

Man up and pay your fucking tab...

Douche.

I didn't qualify for OSAP - my parents made too much money, and were (gasp) actually still married to each other... I paid my way through my engineering degree working nights, weekends, summers, and a small 'regular' loan... Which was paid off within about 2 years of my completing school.

And this isn't sour grapes - it's a larger issue, about "men" trying to avoid their obligations, instead of doing the right thing.

I have a huge debt from all the years in university lol

Pay your loan, stop trying to find ways to avoid paying it. Like Rubmeister says, it's a loan from a bank, guaranteed by the government. Just set yourself up with a comfortable payment schedule, one that you can manage and live with.

I hope that there isn't anything that you can legally do to avoid paying your OSAP loans.

You borrowed the money didn't you? Be a man and pay the $$ back.

You've probably paid out thousands to SPs over the past few years, but you want to welch on your debts.

Didn't you learn anything in school that would allow you to make some $$ to pay off your debt?

That's probably exactly why education shouldn't be free - as you state. So mooches don't waste the time of teachers, learn nothing, but then end up having money for booze and money for hookers, but don't want to pay back money they borrowed. That's why European countries are in trouble. Too many mooches.
EXACTLY.

I would add to the OP, where do you get off thinking that a university education should be free? (Like those lay-abouts in Quebec?) Truth be told, you only paid for a fraction of the cost for your university degree. Your education was highly subsidized already.

When I went to University, I did everything I could to minimize the cost. For example, I was born and raised in Hamilton, so I went to McMaster and lived at home and saved a bundle. Oh sure, you probably are from the GTA and wanted to go to Western for "the university experience" right? Assuming you lived in the GTA, you had U of T, York, and Ryerson to choose from. But you wanted to go to Western or Queens right. Well now you need to pay for your tastes.

No he's probably one of those who had to pay for his kids education ..out of his own pocket...like me...
hate to break it to you dude...but OSAP..will come after you....just because too many cheap assholes decided to default on their loans..after they graduated.....
If you dont make payment arrangements...dont expect any tax refunds until its 100% paid off......cus you go into the Federal system as a defaulter.....
suck it up..and pay your debt

Actually these loans tend to be a blended risk between the province, the feds and the banks. The legislation makes them almost impossible to escape.

There are some forums that are dedicated to that issue, you are better off looking there.

I think the OP is right, but I don't know of a good way to help you.
I would suggest that the members of terb help you by each donating $1.00, that would give you $100,000+, a little extra to help buy you a car and a down payment on a house. If you need anymore help that you are entitled to receive from the public, just let us know. A-hole.

How much do you owe in total? I used OSAP too, I don't remember my debt being higher than $10k in total but I could be mistaken.

I think the OP is a douche for trying to get out of his OSAP loan. He got the loan and now he doesn't want to follow through with what he agreed to do. He prefers to fuck hookers rather than pay his debt. That makes him a lowlife.

On the other hand, I think the cut backs to education are a bad thing. Tuition should be lowered. Loans and grants should be made available to students so that they don't have such a huge debt load when they graduate. But students need to pay back what they have borrowed.
