This should be the preferred strategy for rookies. Start with an agency, learn the ropes and strike out on your own. However, just as in the real world, not everyone is cut out to go on their own. There are many more who prefer the comfort of being an employee than the potential reward (and risk) of being self employed.
I don't know ... I started indy and have never been anything else... for me it's more about CHOICE that the amount of administrative work I have to do. I wouldn't trade my ability to choose clients/locations/hours/vacations etc etc for anything. my 2 cents ; )
I agree with this. Seems to me it's not too dissimilar than other businesses. It seems the best, brightest and highly ambitious business people end up starting their own companies a lot of time so they can have many of the things the indies are preaching here - more flexibility, noone to answer to but themselves, no middleman for profits or pricing, etc. However, it's also fair to say that the worst business people ending up getting fired. In either case they leave their "employer", or, in this case, the agency.I think the best and the worse girls are often indies. It all depends why they are indies.
Don't indies make more for themselves per hour (no agency fee or cut)? Yes, they risk 'bust-days' but if they are popular, that difference in extra profit can add up.From what I've read, agency girls are more likely to make more per hour worked
They also have to pay for all expenses too, e.g. hotel expenses, condoms, refreshments etc.Don't indies make more for themselves per hour (no agency fee or cut)? Yes, they risk 'bust-days' but if they are popular, that difference in extra profit can add up.
Agency girls or MPAs will have more visible 'competition' under the same roof or management.
Indies can set themselves apart by presenting themselves in a more exclusive or unique way.
I like both agency girls and indies. All the other pluses and minuses have been articulated well by others herein.
Yes of course but to a large extent, those expenses are fixed or semi-variable. As I said, if they are popular, meaning reasonable to high business volume, they can make more money. They also have to pay for all expenses too, e.g. hotel expenses, condoms, refreshments etc.
Probably why some of the more popular agency girls are successful when they go indy too... They already HAVE an established clientele.Yes of course but to a large extent, those expenses are fixed or semi-variable. Another positive element for indies is that they can develop their own client lists and even tailor their clientele to those that they prefer to see. Even if they are making the same money, they have more control.
However, just like being in your own business, it's hard starting up, but once established, it could be smooth sailing ahead.
Very true Ridgeman and they are popular for a good reason, great people skills, among other things. :biggrin1:Probably why some of the more popular agency girls are successful when they go indy too... They already HAVE an established clientele.
I think that happens in every profession. Good lawyers and dentists don't start their own practice right off the bat, they build clientele first. It seems that many of the more successful independents started out with one or more agencies, then went solo after gaining a sufficiently popular reputation. Maybe they make a similar income, but see fewer clients?
Do you girls gossip about the customers? Hee, hee, hee... on slow days at the agency you always had company of the other girls...
