Well, at least in one case the truth is coming out. All of the brouhaha earlier this year with regards to Apple's contractors' employees that culminated in the NYT piece seems to have come in part from a This American Life episode. TAL based its episode on someone who lied to them on various key points such as underaged workers, gun-toting guards, etc.

TAL said this when it found out:

We've learned that Mike Daisey's story about Apple in China - which we broadcast in January - contained significant fabrications.

You can read a rough transcript of the episode that was broadcast last night here:

all over
You're so right all the Apple haters seem to be obsessed by apple and new products, hate reviews etc. they're like wacko stalkers that were turned down by a pretty girl & then they have to garbage mouth her. Very amusing, but borderline irrational.

In the other thread about this shit, you wont find ANYONE quoting from "This American Life" story, instead quoting actual FACTS from the New York Times and CNN.

I'm happy that your so gleefull that some dumbass was caught lying, but the FACTS do remain the same....even after the recent inspections where some guy said working conditions were better than he expected and no where near what they see in the textile industry the very next day they said "there are tons of issues" that will come out in their report.

and then there is this.....

Apple and the Daisey affair
Why did the company keep its silence, when it knew a year ago what we know now?

What anti-suicide nets? lol
I guess he means the safety nets. Apparently they work. The suicide for money rate has fallen dramatically, 'xcuse the pun.

I laughed so loud when I heard this result, and it does prove that there are some out there who salivate to try and take Apple down a notch, regardless of how dumb it is. The previous thread that went on and on showed, under close examination, the situation was not what it was presented as. Now this, love it.

First off, are you sure that the "facts" from the NYT and CNN did NOT come from Daisey?

Second, that link from Fortune? Here ar a couple of salient points:

It turns out the Apple public relations staffers did talk to reporters -- always off the record -- about Mike Daisey, pointing out inaccuracies in his account and suggesting that it was extremely unlikely that one man could have seen as much as Daisey claimed he saw in one trip to China. Among the journalists they warned off the Daisey story were Ira Glass and This American Life producer Brian Reid.
The company didn't want to give him an even broader stage by engaging with him in a public debate. They knew that if the world's most valuable public company attacked a one-man show it would draw even more attention to Daisey and his message and tend to elevate him in the public's eye to their level.

A quote from your OP This American Life transcripts:

We did factcheck the story before we put it on the radio. But in factchecking, our main
concern was whether the things Mike says about Apple and about its supplier Foxconn.
which makes this stuff, were true. That stuff is true. It’s been corroborated by
independent investigations by other journalists, studies by advocacy groups, and much of
it has been corroborated by Apple itself in its own audit reports.

But what's not true is what Mike said about his own trip to China

Mike Daisy lied about Foxconn security with guns, a 13 yr old worker he spoke to and the old man with mangled hands.....although Apples own audits do show that underaged workers do exist.

challenge those FACTS danibbler

It seems that the vast majority of what Daisey said was false. So, let's go with the underaged workers...that's a fact. What you don't seem to realize is that that is NOT Apple's policy and it is not condoned by Apple.

Have a look at Apple's own audit report.

BTW, where are the audits from other suppliers? Hrmmm???

In Shenzen at Foxconn there was a large number of suicides from workers a year and half ago i think. Since then there wages have increased about 3500 rub a month which is a fair bit... not sure on the hours being cut down. Suicide rate among young university grads and high schools are increasing overall in China ... not begin able to time travel is one of the biggest causes among high school students ... yep i really said it and it is true. Buti believe and i could be wrong that the Foxxcon suicides were actually attributed to a particular boss and shift.
What anti-suicide nets? lol

Woz supports Mike Daisey's message and says you should too
Apple co-founder says he loved Daisey's show and believes media misunderstands the actor and Apple critic. He credits Daisey with helping to prod Apple into improving working conditions in China.

I guess Woz is a Apple hater too lol
