Fuck you.

You saw I was changing lanes to exit on McCowan, you saw I had my signal on, and you sped up just to be an asshole (nobody gets in front of you do they?) Common courtesy - if you're on the inside, and you can see a guy needs over in order to exit and he has his signal on, give him a break and let him in.

You could have just eased off on the gas a bit and let me in, but no, you hit the gas to show me that you were boss, so I took my lane whether you liked it or not. Guess you didn't count on that did you.

Obviously you didn't like it because you laid solid on the horn and I just gave you the prolonged finger.

You have a nice day.

Well if you were getting off at the exit then why not think a head and get in the right lane sooner instead of being out in the centre and slowing down your lane and making the right lane driver let off so you can get off the highway! Common coutresty is out there but drivers have to use common sense to know where and when to plan to get off a exit

You did the right thing, i would have done the same or even worse.

People like toying with people on the road, it gives them relief i suppose, i don't go looking for trouble but if someone messes with me on the road, i make them pay for it.

Given the abysmal level of driver training and practice, and that we have entirely abandoned traffic policing to the insurance companies who do it in backrooms, after the accidents it works like this: People will pass you on the right without even thinking that it's stupid. If you have to move to the right, do a minimal shoulder-check, so you can say you did and verify he's at least one inch behind you, signal and move. If he's behind you, that's his problem to keep clear, and his fault as any subsequent legal proceedings will establish.

Neither he nor you will care, because the accident will be serious. But his speeding up was actually his way of letting you know he saw the signal. You are not required to assume he'd be idiot enough to go ahead and hit the car in front.

Because I was in the express.

I exited the express and McCowan is VERY CLOSE to the interchange between Express and Collector. McCowan is in fact the first exit after the interchange. (Leslie going eastbound is the same tight configuration. If you are going eastbound on 401 and want to exit on McCowan, the second you get through the interchange between express and collector you need to start moving over (for what amounts to be 5 lane changes).

I started to move over with my signal on the second I exited the interchage. I had made 2 or 3 lane changes with no problem. It was about 3 p.m. and there was heavy traffic volumes (though it was moving, not stop and go).

He could see exactly what I was doing and hit the gas on my right side to make it impossible for me to continue to move over and exit on McCowan. So I punched the gas, made my lane change at the same time, then hit the brake so as not to pile into the guy in front of me. Mission accomplished.

I don't think this is correct. Putting your signal on and gaining at least a one inch advantage to the car you are preparing to move in front of does not make it the other driver's fault. I am certain that that would be considered an unsafe lane change and you would be at fault.

Yeah but they'd hafta prove all that, and currently they just look at who was following, and ding him for following too close. Never mind the illegality—albeit arguable—of passing on the right. And never mind the evidence that he in fact increased his speed, when his responsibility as the following car is to maintain a safe stopping distance at all times. In the facts as presented jtk was already ahead and signalling properly, to make a predictable manoeuvre.

I also had in mind a tone of irony which I clearly failed to achieve. But no one passing on the right deserves any but the minimum of regard.

Since I drive a minivan, a despised type of vehicle, I face this situation and worse often. Some dudes just can't stand having a vehicle ahead of them.

Despite all ones skill and experience (42 years clear, close to 2M km) one can't always predict idiotic behaviour. However, not to be accused of type-casting, certain cars are obvious potential problem creators. Always watch your ass and assume someone will try to sneak by on the right.

BTW, that style of idiotic driving gets you pulled over in Germany, or run over. The left lanes are for passing, and for FAST, and no one is to pass on the right.

Since you know this move over to collector lanes earlier and you'll have lots of time to get into the lane.

There are alot of bad drivers and just as many selfish ones. A driver who does not let another in, especially an exiting driver, is an asshole! Plain and simple.

Just like the guy who knows your signal means you're changing lanes should keep clear.

Your signal means you intend to change lanes or turn. It does NOT mean I have to get the fuck out of your way. If its safe for me to do so I will but its your responsibility to make sure you can change lanes (or turn) safely. What the OP did was dangerous and he was lucky. If you can't get to the lane you like get off at the next exit or plan ahead.

I'm a westender. I've exited at McCowan about once in my life.

I'm driving along, I'm just watching the signs on the 401 eastbound express for McCowan and before you have time to even think, there is the exit for McCowan from the Collectors.

Next time I'm exiting on McCowan, I will move over into the collectors one interchange sooner. Not sure when the next time will be though

You're missing the point.

The point was that buddy saw me changing lanes and was on the gas to prevent me from moving over. He was deliberately being a selfish dick. I wasn't expecting him to "get out of my way". I was expecting him to maintain the fucking speed he was travelling at and not act like a spoiled self absorbed 12 year old boy.

There's this thing called common courtesty and when you're driving, it helps if you follow it. If you see someone signaling to move over, you don't speed up to fuck him over. Or if you do, you should make sure that your car has more horsepower than the guy you are being a dick to. (In his case, his car didn't have the balls to complete the manouvre he was attempting to make and mine had more than enough.)

You don't drive a Silver Honda Civic by any chance do you?

It was simply a case of he saw me signalling and moving over and he thought he would hit the gas to make sure that I didn't somehow end up in front of him.

A normal person would have just maintained their speed or backed off even to allow me to complete the move in a normal manner. Not hit the gas figuring that no-one dare move in front of me.
