The Age of Stupid

Posted January 22, 2012

The Age of Stupid is a 90-minute film about climate change, set in the future.

Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, Brassed Off) stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at footage from 2007 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance?

One might say that acting on the basis of fearmongering and ignorance is stupid, but I digresss.

I have concerns about global warming myself as well, but we don't really know for sure about much in this arena in my view. The scientists are fairly united in their view, but they are only part of the equation. Will people voluntarily give up economic growth is the real question, in either the short or long term. The answer is no. As such, I see no realistic solution to the problem in any event, so enjoy the ride now because it's going to get rough, real rough.

Sorry about your kid's future world. Sucks to be them!

And yet, that may not be the case. We don't know.

I agree with this. I don't think we have the will as a collective species to put aside our own gain in the now for future gain for both ourselves and the following generations. I can see hundreds of scenarios where we go down in flames and none where we come out of this ahead. That's not to say we won't...hell, predicting just 10 years ahead is incredibly chancy. I guess I'm still young enough that I'll live to see it.... Should be fun :fear:
