I think Ontario has both coy-dog hybrids and coyote-wolf hybrids. Either could explain more pack behavior. Pack behavior is not very common with pure coyotes...usually pairs or pairs with a pup or two.
Coyote-wolf? Never seen or heard of it, they hate each other, but there's always a first time.

"Though coyotes are often mistaken for a domestic dog hybrid, recent genetic research has attributed the eastern coyote's larger size and unique behavioral characteristics to interbreeding with Canadian gray wolves."

If you read up you find that all dogs have Grey wolf DNA to a varying degree, but then I guess it depends from which side of the glass you're looking from.
The larger size of Eastern Coyotes could also be attributed to a better diet, similar to the coastal and inland Grizzlies and Brown bears. As I said, there can always be a first one.

My presumption is that PhD Wildlife Biologists and Geneticists (as quoted) know more about it than I do.

Coyotes are lone animals.
They pair up for mating and bitches will have a few pups in spring

But that is it.
99% of reported coyote sightings particularly in urban areas are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coydog

If you see a "pack" of coyotes, they are not coyotes.

If you see a lone wolf, turn around because the "pack" is behind you.

Or blackrock. The interbreeding with wolves was covered extensively a couple of years ago when that girl was killed in the Maritimes by one.

I never claimed it doesn't happened just that I'd never seen or heard of it and this was the first time. You really try too heard, having failed twice to trip me up in recent weeks, and now show us that you can't even remember things you just read. I didn't remember that maritime attack was a with a cross bred wolf, but then 'it' was a couple of years ago. My recollection was the attack was by coyote(s) and not a wolf, and wolves in the Maritimes would be very very rare, but I could be wrong again.

I guess my previous post could be said to you and thanks for the report from the US where there are wolves in the eastern states, so it's more likely to happen and likely will spread up north but as I said, I'd never heard of it yet did accept that it could. Keep up the good work.

The article from the State of New Hampshire's wildlife agency covered all of this (the genetic makeup of Eastern Coyotes - which are both significantly larger and act differently than western coyotes) - that is why I provided the link.

Bound to happen, with people encroaching on so much land and building, building, building, we have no one else to blame but us locust humans.
Whenever I hear of a person injured by an animal, I don't feel bad one bit.

This might be where we are headed. Don't think I've ever seen worse special effects - they are so bad, they're good.

Seriously - got them where I am - makes dog walking a bit of a challenge.
Skip to 2:10, I hate watching YouTube videos without people mentioning the point of their video posting. It's why I skip through every 20-30 seconds at a time. Thanks for that worthless clip. :) Hope you didn't waste your life watching that shit. lol

Point was this is where we are headed with mixed breeding. Just thought it was an ugly ctreature to show you. New reports are that coyotes in urban areas have packed up. They normally did not pose a threat to humans, as they feared them. Being in urban areas, with easy food sorces, and being around humans more they apparently lose their fear.

Pets are always a concern, so keep an eye on them.

Harassing the animal is one thing. The animal without provocation attacking a person is another thing entirely.

That's what I like about you Cobster, such a kind and compassionate soul, never have extreme opinions, always level headed.

I suppose you would have broken the news to this girls parents just in that manner

It's called people encroaching and taking up their space which is equally as much ours as it is theirs, not shocked by this.
Sorry.
