Coyote Attack

No matter what the PETA people have to say Eastern Coyote's are nasty. I'm sorry to say that taking a walk in a rural area and carrying a firearm are becoming synonymous (or at least for me they are), particularly when one can hear them howling at night in the woods.An 8 year old girl was attacked by a coyote in her Oakville backyard yesterday. She will have to undergo 4 (rather painful?) rabies shots.
This coyote had no fear. It attacked the little girl right in her own backyard.
A single coyote in the winter? He's starving, desperate, or sick. Humans are slow and easy prey unfortunately.

Saw the news report on event and it boils down to young child gets nipped by coyote, breaks skin on bite and get rabies shots. She was telling the story and certainly didn't seem traumatized while frolicking around her backyard. Cops shot coyote, game over. Wild animal which doesn't fear humans are a concern for rabies. It was too bad the animal had to be shot.
Rabies is actually a big deal. If you don't get the shots right away it is almost always fatal. By the time you have symptoms you're basically a goner. Fortunately the shots are very effective--but you have to get them immediately or they won't save you.
My cousin has a farm north of Fergus and he shoots 4-5 coyotedogs a week on his property to protect his chickens and other livestock.
Most of these reported "coyotes" are not at all real coyotes, but hybrids of coyotes and domesticated dogs that lived feral and interbred.

Ok I looked it up on the internet. Rabies shots use to be given in the stomach. Not anymore. They are now given in the arm.
True, but they do tend to roam in packs, and certainly at night in the woods there are five or six of them in a group all howling together and if one coyote is bad, six are worse.very common for coyotes to roam alone they are not wolves
