I was just sickened to read this story

Honestly, I have to tell you that I feel ashamed to be a Canadian and I can't remember the last time I felt that way.

Agreed but why no outrage for the murdering asshole who actually KILLED her! Then drove away!

Are we so used to drunk drivers killing people that we save our outrage for harmless (but outrageous) petty issues?

The bastard decided to drink, then drive, then ran over an INNOCENT young woman, then drove away!

Her death is no less tragic that if she died in more spectacular newsworthy circumstances. She is as dead as if he raped and murdered her.
I'm certainly outraged at the driver who fled the scene, his actions resulted in the death of a person and he should be punished as such. But to equate him to a rapist and murderer is a bit extreme. When you drive drunk (and I admit I used to on numerous occasions) you never think your actions will result in death.

Perhaps some are truly stupid enough not to know what they are doing. I think the rest don't care because they just want to drive home (or to the next bar). Being stupid is no defence for being a criminal.

As for the thief, I think it's always wrong to take what is not your own, however, stealing from the dead is as close to a victimless crime as you canm get.
