Angelo Epifani, 61, of St. Catharines is charged separately with impaired driving causing death, operating a motor vehicle with more than 0.08 mg of alcohol in his system causing death, and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
I'm just flabbergasted that someone came across the scene of an accident where someone was seriously hurt or dead, and instead of calling 911 and trying to help, potentially saving a life, he robbed the victim.
It sounds like the unfortunate woman was already dead/dying, or at least that's the official version, but there is likely no way he would have known that for sure.

I used to manage a few retail stores in Hamilton. Columbia College studends were great regulars - their families had money. One of my regular clients used to walk in at 4 every day - buy a new outfit. I'd steam it and she'd walk out happy..... he could've likely had access to a lot if he took advantage to whatever was in her purse.

No, her head might be half crush, her guts spilling out, a leg rip off and he would not know she's already dead. Didn't she get run over by a car, what do you think happens to the body ?
Since she no long needed the cash, this dead beat help himself to it. Maybe he seen his friend get shot and killed in the past, maybe death to him isn't so shocking. Instead of freaking out and screaming, he stole...oh well, I don't think its the same as mugging a person--which this low life might also do
The guy who killed her did something extremely stupid, he got behind the wheel of a car drunk. He then panicked, and showed really poor judgement in fleeing from the tragedy he inflicted. But it's primarily reckless stupidity that he is going to be punished for, I doubt he really intended to cause anyone harm. I don't mean to let him off the hook--I am just saying, it's not a cold evil heart that drives drunk, it's just a stupid/arrogant/reckless one.
The guy who stole her purse can't blame stupidity or poor judgement for his acts. It verges on being pure evil.
I am glad that the drunk driver is going to pay a stiff penalty for his stupidity, and I suspect that he feels horrible about having killed someone--but I don't find stupidity and the neglect of the drunk driver as morally reprehensible as coldly stealing from a dying person who desperately needs your help.
