Actually, it is perfectly legal to discriminate on the basis of looks, if you can prove that the job highly revolves around you being attractive. Consider the Rockettes, Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, etc.
I believe the flight attendants argued that since their job was attending to the safety of the airline passengers, physical attractiveness, marital status, etc. was irrelevant.
When Hooters tried this a few years ago, the Hooters girls were not "flight attendants." There were real flight attendants on the plane, while the Hooters girls merely served drinks and food.
Abercrombie & Fitch ran into this when it was alleged that they only wanted "hot" salespeople, and the allegation was that "hot" = white. I think they had a weak case, since a salesperson's job to sell clothing, does not require physical attractiveness.
But I digress ... As far as the plane, I wonder about people fighting over what to be done in the "community" area.
