I have a few fiends that have used the same concept for a number of different conversions. It's a little easier in a California climate, compared to our northern clime, but doable, yet not for $4000. With this lifestyle catching on, you find that most of the used containers available need some welding done to repairs from forklift damage. Two 20 foot containers can give you a very cosy 1000+ sq. ft. living space for almost next to nothing.
umm ... what about the cost of the land that sits under the shipping container? and the cost of sewage and power?
if it's someone else's land, like in a trailer park, you still have to pay rent

I suspect the costs stated are for the structure alone for obvious the reasons you stated
You can do it with 4, but it requires some cutting and welding, then filling in the middle space with a floor.

It looks like a hobo hut to me. You can not just plant a shipping container in the middle of nowhere and call it a house. The electrical inspectors, fire safety inspectors will be over to see if it is safe. The health inspectors will want to know if it has a safe water supply and adequate sewage and plumbing. Child welfare will be over to see if the kids are getting to school. It does not look like the place is near a road.

out in the country, lots of folks are taking two shipping containers, placing them in parallel, about 14 feet apart, then getting some trusses, building a roof, and making some pretty nice garages, especially if they add siding. Not only do you have the garage space between the containers, but also the additional container storage for other motorized items such as motorcycles, riding mowers, etc.

Question: If the main missile silo is what I think it is, the top technically can open up to expose all the sun you could ever want?
That main control room access door seems flimsy and rather obvious. You'd think they'd put hidden panels like the hotel in Virginia?
