I just saw a piece on CTV NEWS on "photo retouching". For all we know maybe only Lindsay's face is the genuine article in these photos. Notice how photo retouching made her breasts so much bigger.

I have not studied playboy much, but seem to remember they have better locations, lighting, styling, editing, all around better quality. These pictures seem a bit low budget considering they hired a 1 million dollar model. Could the pictures be fake?

I think what's going on here is she has horrible skin and looks terrible. They did the Monroe thing to try and pass off choosing grainy looking images as part of the "art", recalling the technology of the 60's, when in reality it's just so they can use exposure tricks to cover up how horrid she really is.
