Rob Ford said he was going to save money by making the city more efficient, and that this could be done without service cuts.

Latest example:

The TTC was asked to reduce costs by 10%, and did so by cutting service on 65 bus routes. Are there no inefficiencies to be found in the TTC? Why was a service cut necessary, in light of Rob Ford's gravy finding expertise?

Where's the gravy?

Torontonians deserve to be punished for listening to his pack of lies and electing him, maybe they will learn something over the next 3 years. The only gravy was the 3 million he blew on his consultants who were tasked with finding the gravy in the books. They came up short with the info but they still walked away with 3 million. That is what you get when you elect a puppet of a pissed off Mike Harris who is still upset at his ejection over 10 yrs ago from the government after people wised up to the damage he was causing.
Yep, I agree. We need to learn to get off our collective asses and vote. This goes for the rest of Canada too!

The gravy discussions can be found in the political section.

You should know better fuji.
Gravy has nothing to do with politics. Part of the US Thanksgiving leftovers. Rob Ford is always looking for gravy. And the City of Toronto says, "no gravy for you". Pissed off, Rob Ford decides to cut services to the people of Toronto. The man has gravy on the mind, kind of like a sex-crazed Terbite. We should ALL be concerned. Therefore Fuji posted this where we can all read it.

Buses are the gravy. We all own cars, so buses are gravy. If there is anybody who doesn't own a car, they should buy one. And if they don't buy one then they have feet that can be used for walking so buses are still gravy. And how will the cars fit on the city streets. Rob Ford will get rid of the bike paths and all the cars can fit there. The man is a genius - unappreciated by some.

The gravy lies in the expense accounts of city employes.
The gravy is in overstaffing, overpaid employees, high absenteeism, rich benefits, rich pension, 6 weeks vacation, etc. We take care of CUPE Local 79 very well. In short, grossly overpaid, grossly underworked and grossly inefficient employees.

Yes, the world is all wrong at city hall. But Rob Ford will fix it. He has contracted out garbage services. Now we can have minimum wage workers collecting garbage so that millionaire owners and managers of the company that got the contract can afford the luxuries in life they deserve. He can then do the same for the other services the city provides. We'll pay the same taxes, but that money will be going to those that deserve it, not those lazy front-liners. (ok, I admit it, rubmeister100 was right; this is a political discussion, shame on you Fuji)

The easiest way to cut gravy at the TTC is when a Driver stops driving and decides to take a job as a ticket seller, their salary should be reduced to reflect that new position.

Would also help to inform them that the city of Toronto will no longer pay the Ohip premiums Mcguinty effectively dumped on Toronto. ( it's not a tax its a premium nonsense )

Should probably contract out cleaning services for the bathrooms as well, it is pathetic how little TTC staff take care of them.

Have you seen the traffic in Toronto at 5:30pm? Some of the bus routes that were cut were among the busiest in the city. If those people all start driving the Toronto rush hour commute will go from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

TTC has gravy. empty busses should be reduced in number. i don't know what stats the ttc mgmt has to work from, but they should know by the minute how many people are on any bus. politically, it's always been difficult for them to manage the situation. also, poor management itself of bus separation and scheduling creates problems.

This is where the sheer brilliance of Rob Ford comes into play. Get rid of bike lanes and there will be plenty of room for cars. Nothing to worry about, Ford nation has answers for everything.

The "gravy" is a political landmine. It's in the wages and FTE of city workers. It's partly a structural problem (aging workforce with many years of service and accrued entitlements) and partly cultural (overstaffing, budget slack building, managers protecting their little fiefdoms).

The cuts are coming. The pols have to win public support for chopping heads before they put people out of work. Notice Doug Holyday's rant this morning about union protections standing in the way of more efficient service delivery options?

Using the words brilliance and Ford in the same sentence is an oxymoron, Ford is the poster boy for moron.

The only gravy Ford has proven to me is in his huge, fat belly, and he hasn't even stopped that gravy train as he seems to get fatter each time I see him. He's turned out to be the biggest phat, phuck I've ever seen in Toronto politics. A blowhard with a bark bigger than his bite, a complete and utter useless boar.

Explain why Ford offered VSP to Toronto workers hoping for over 2,000 employees to accept it, then gets only 1140 applications, then says only about 700 will be considered and eventually only accepts just 230 employees. WTF is wrong with this idiot? Then he says he couldn't accept applications from those employees that have their salaries co-paid by another government body. If that's the case why did you offer VSP to a department of about 3000 employees knowing full well in advance you wouldn't accept their application? Talk about uselss, Ford is a moron, plain and simple who has not business savy whatsoever.

He had his chance to let 4 or 5 times more employees go without any problems who volunteered to retire, but noooooooooooooooo, this idiot blew it. I supported this lunatic for Mayor, now he's off my Xmas list, he's lost my support and I'll make sure I'll get as many others to vote against him next election.

Last I checked there were no bikelanes on the major arterial roads, or on the DVP.

But he promised that this could be done without cutting services. Meanwhile his TTC lieutenant, Karen Stintz, has announced that the cut in TTC budget will be achieved through a cut in service.
