Have you ever bothered to actually listen to the President when this happens? To be fair to the King, by the time of Australian Transportation those laws were all with the approval of Parliament.

This does not change the fact that by the turn of the 19th Century some two hundred and twenty-two crimes were Capital Offenses including the theft of something of more than 5s in value from a merchant. However, most of those sentences save for heinous crimes were commuted to transportation beyond the seas. So few Australian Convicts were "dangerous criminals."
